Tulip (general information).
This bright and fragrant flower always pleases us in the spring with its beauty, presentable and skillful, although it would seem so simple, appearance. Tulips are ubiquitous for growers to grow, and the variety is simply unimaginable.
Let's begin to consider this bulbous plant with a general classification of varieties suitable for cultivation in open ground. Each individual class, it should be noted, has its own characteristics and there is always something that suits your taste. Interested already? Let's go then!
Class simple early tulips characterized by a relatively early period of onset of flowering, growth not exceeding 40 centimeters, in also predominant yellow and red shades in flower color. The flowers themselves are cupped or resemble wide glasses. It is possible to distill such varieties even in January and February, without fear that the flowers will not withstand the conditions provided. Examples of varieties include Bellona, Cassini, Brilliant Star and others.
Nice name Triumf is a class of varieties whose plants are distinguished by high growth, large flowers resembling glasses, as well as intensive and effective reproduction. Coloring can be very different, there are no specific criteria and restrictions. Examples of varieties: Kansas, Blizzard and others.
Darwin hybrids - a class of tulips, the flowers of which are goblet in shape, are distinguished by a bright color, a red tint prevails. They are also a tall variety. Of the other colors, a yellow, cream shade is noted, there are also specimens with a combination of two colors at the same time. Parade, Oxford and others are noted as examples of varieties.
Have flower lilyOn the class of tulips, flowers are noted that are longer, with the presence of narrow and sharp petals, which are bent outward. The color is bright enough. Examples are Alaska, Mrs. Moon and others.
Terry late tulip - the class that differs from all others in flowers with a thick double surface, the shape resembles peonies. The color is yellow, red, white and even purple. What is remarkable is the coincidence of the flowering period with the Triumph tulip class. The best varieties are Symphony, Nice, Mount Tacoma, and so on.
Turning to the question about choosing the best placesbut to grow tulips, here you need to be vigilant and not harm the plants by planting them “anywhere”. The tulip prefers an even landscape on which there should not be any depressions, the intended place should be properly protected from strong wind currents from the north, and also receive the necessary amount of sunlight, it is not recommended to equip a flower garden in remote areas, most of the time in the shade. However, it should be noted that some late varieties are suitable for such places, moreover, in such conditions, their flowering time increases. In other cases, with a lack of energy from the sun, the growth and development of the tulip may be slowed down, its stems will begin to stretch, the bulbs will begin to shrink and ultimately the tulip will simply degenerate. Cold wind, when exposed to a plant, can contribute to such consequences as mechanical damage to the stems, deterioration of the appearance and level of presentability.
Concerning soil, then for the cultivation of tulips it is necessary to choose a light soil, from which subsequently there will be no problems with regards to the access of oxygen and moisture. The soil must be cultivated, with a sufficient degree of moisture capacity, and also containing the required amount of nutrients. If there are not enough of them, the soil is pre-fertilized with humus. The alkaline reaction of such soils should be characterized as neutral or weak. Accordingly, they are not suitable for growing soil close to the groundwater surface, as there is a risk of water stagnation in the absence of a drainage structure. Before starting to plant a tulip, the earth should be subjected to a digging process for 2 or 3 months. The optimal values to be deepened are from 25 to 30 centimeters. Subsequently, the soil must be loosened and leveled with a garden tool, do not forget to apply fertilizer in between times in accordance with the norm. 1 week before the planting process, you should repeat the digging of the selected area for its final preparation.
Fertilizers for the normal life of tulips, they are introduced even in the process of early preparation of the soil for planting. When doing the initial digging, you should add rotted manure in an amount of 4 to 7 kilograms per 1 square meter or compost in an amount of 3 to 5 kilograms on the same area. Repeated digging should be accompanied by the application of nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers without an overabundance - no more than 30 grams in the case of nitrogen fertilizers and 60 grams in the case of phosphorus fertilizers per 1 square meter. With the onset of early spring, when the snow is still melting, nitrogen fertilizers should be applied again, not exceeding the rate of 30 grams.
The main secret and nuance planting tulips is that they should be planted with the expectation that the plants have time to root properly even before the temperature drops sharply. Rely on indicators from 6 to 10 degrees, because it is these indicators that are favorable for starting the formation of the tulip root system. For example, in central Russia, these plants should be planted at the end of September.
Tulips are usually planted one at a time, in rows. Small bulbs are sown in the furrows. Remember, the distance between the bulbs both between the rows and in the row itself, the level of planting depth - all this is determined by the parameters of the size of the bulbs. If the bulbs are large, then, accordingly, it will require a large area for growth and nutrition. Row spacing is typically 20 to 25 centimeters, while large bulbs should be at least 10 centimeters apart. Planting depth is determined by the rule - the height should not exceed the height of 3 pieces of bulbs. In principle, deep planting is allowed on soils light enough to allow moisture and oxygen to pass through, this should not negatively affect the growth and development of plants.
By cultivating tulips on your site, you not only transform its appearance, but also gain a valuable and interesting experience. Take care of these unusually beautiful perennial plants - they will certainly delight you by the warm spring with their noble appearance!
