We save the garden from the heat
Content:
Drought, heat in the garden and high temperatures lead to burns on plants, their exhaustion and even death. All activities aimed at saving crops from the heat have the following goals:
- Protect plants from direct sunlight.
- Reduce the air temperature in the beds.
- Moisten the soil and retain moisture.
All of these goals are achieved in several ways, but it is most optimal to use them in combination. To protect the garden from the heat, crops are shaded, watering and sprinkling, as well as soil mulching.
Heat in the garden: how to shade the beds?
Of course, it is not necessary to shade the area completely from the heat in the garden; only young plants, most susceptible to burns, protect from the sun's rays. For these purposes, agrofibre or mesh is suitable. They scatter the sun's rays, but do not impede air circulation. Also, dry grass, branches freed from leaves and other improvised means are suitable.
For shading the plants, rocker plantings are used, grown from corn, grapes, or climbing beans. Such plants themselves perfectly tolerate heat, while others provide protection from the sun.
Watering the garden in the heat and sprinkling
When watering the beds in the heat in the garden, some features should be observed. For example, cold water will stress the root system. Therefore, you need to water the plants in the early morning or late evening, using non-ice water. With this method of watering from the heat in the garden, the roots will have time to absorb moisture before it begins to evaporate. And moist soil is less hot in the sun. It is optimal to use the drip method for irrigation.
In extreme heat, the usual watering is not enough for the plant. Then sprinkling comes to the rescue, in which in the hottest periods of time water spraying systems work over the beds. In addition to humidification, this allows you to reduce the temperature in the garden. This method is especially good for protecting young shoots.
When watering from the heat in the garden, you should also take into account the characteristics of the cultivated crop. The fact is that the need for water will depend on the root system. For example, cucumbers do not tolerate root watering, and zucchini require abundant watering. In addition, different types of soil filter water differently. Sandy - quickly, so they need to be watered in several stages. This will allow moisture to be absorbed well. Clay ones hold water for a long time and dry slowly, so first you need to prepare them by improving water permeability.
Mulching
A thick layer of mulch between the rows prevents overheating of the soil and helps to retain moisture. This heat recovery method works best in conjunction with other methods such as watering and shading. It will not be possible to obtain a strong effect only by mulching. It should also be remembered that you should not save on mulching material. The thicker the layer of mulch, the better it will protect the soil from drought.
It is better to prepare for dry periods in advance, only in this way the plants can be provided with timely assistance and successfully cope with the heat in the garden.
