Onions, like any plant, are very fond of moisture and light. Therefore, it can be germinated in a hydroponic garden. In order to make this simple structure at home, you need to take an ordinary plastic tray, then halve it into 2 equal parts. As you may have guessed, instead of eggs, we will put small onions there.
Select the densest bulbs, about the size of a chicken egg, and prepare the container as follows. Punch holes in the bottom of the tray so that it looks like a pallet. It is better not to use a cardboard tray, as it swells and falls apart very quickly. By the size of the tray, you need to find the appropriate box. There you need to pour a little water and put the loaded structure on top. Then fill the tray with onions, having previously cut off the top of them. This is necessary in order for the green feathers to better penetrate the light. However, if the onion has already started the feather, you do not need to cut it.
You can place the tray on a small support made of sticks so that not all of the onion is in the water. It is important to ensure that only the roots of the onion touch the water. Otherwise, instead of green feathers, you will get an unpleasant smell and rot, which will eventually form on the bulb itself. After that, a kind of bed is put on the windowsill. This is necessary in order to supply plants with light and start the process of photosynthesis. But remember that those bulbs that are closer to the window will grow faster. Therefore, either come up with options for artificial lighting, or periodically turn the box in different directions to the light. You can simply put a foil reflector for sunlight.
Sometimes it is better to plant not all bulbs at once in a hydroponic bed, but at some frequency. This will help you to consistently cut fresh feathers and harvest consistently, in stages.

Another unusual way of growing green onions on a windowsill is using a regular plastic bottle. You will need a 5 liter plastic bottle, soil and bulbs. First, you need to put a little earth on the bottom of the bottle, then start cutting out the "holes".At the bottom of the bottle, according to the size of the bulbs, it is necessary to cut round holes in a checkerboard pattern, up to the top of the bottle, gradually reducing the number of holes. And add more soil. Then you should lay out the next layer of onions and the next layer of soil, gradually working towards the top until the entire bottle is full. So the roots of the onion will grow inside the bottle, in the ground, and the tops will grow outside. In addition, such a design takes up very little space, and gives a lot of yield. Moreover, it will be very convenient for you to cut the feathers, gradually moving from bottom to top. Don't forget to water your garden, however. In order for the onion to develop faster, you can add sand, peat or other fertile mixture to the bottle along with the earth.
