There is no aromatics in this variety of roses, but at the same time, flowers of stunning beauty will decorate any flower garden, flower bed and summer cottage. This is an unusual and original addition.
Nowadays, not so few varieties of green roses have been bred. Each of them has its own characteristic features and traits. Let's list the most famous ones.
Green Ice.
This variety gives small flowers, they look very bright on the bush, as if they are glowing. In good sunlight, roses turn more white than green. The survival rate of this variety, unfortunately, is at a low level. This is due to the fact that the breeders got the variety artificially. However, at the same time, many green rose lovers successfully grow Green Ice both at home and on their plots. The aroma of this variety is completely absent. But the appearance has very beautiful features of the shape and color of the rose.
Greensleeves.
This variety of roses has many different color tones. The base, of course, is green, but the buds themselves have a pretty pinkish tint, which plays differently under different conditions. Sometimes the flower shimmers with a light turquoise, sometimes, under certain sunlight, it gleams with white flashes. This variety is well suited for cutting, since the flower stays in a vase for a long time, the petals do not crumble for a long time. The aroma is delicate, very pleasant. It should be noted that this variety shows rather high requirements for care and cultivation.
Green Tea.
The homeland of this variety is South America. This variety looks amazing in bouquets, especially in wedding bouquets. The flowers have a shade of green tea, which is why they got their name. This variety is very popular with florists and designers due to its great color and neat thin stem. The flower itself, when blooming, becomes quite voluminous, creating the effect of splendor and grandeur.
Super Green.
The main characteristic unusual feature of this variety of green roses is that Super green has a huge number of petals. Sometimes one gets the feeling that the petals simply simply do not have space. The edges of light-colored flowers with green flashes gently turn into a deeper tone in the middle of the bud.
The bush is not too tall, about fifty centimeters. The flowers themselves are quite large, about 10 centimeters. This variety is in bloom throughout the season, thus becoming a great addition to your plot.
Flowers also show good results when cut. They can stand in a vase for about two weeks. The aroma is quite tangible, but at the same time delicate.
Limbo.
Flowers of this variety have a very lush bud shape. Flowers have wavy edges. Limbaugh produces rather large greenish flowers, their diameter reaches almost ten centimeters. Limbo blooms for a long time and abundantly. The aroma is delicate, practically absent. This variety tolerates low temperatures very well.
Wimbledon.
This variety is quite tall, in its height it can reach one meter. The thorniness of the stems is at an average level, this facilitates the process of caring for such roses. In color, the buds are quite bright, and the middle part of the flower has a small red edging. This variety easily tolerates temperature extremes. Wimbeldon will be a great addition to your flower garden.
How to plant a green rose correctly
Many gardeners are wondering when is it better to plant such an unusual culture. It all depends on in which region of the country it is planned to grow a particular variety. In the central part, the last spring numbers or the first days of summer are usually chosen for planting. If the climate is hot enough, then it is better to plant in the autumn. So you will save your roses from hot weather and excess sunlight.
Green rose is a culture that is not easy to care for. Not every gardener manages to successfully grow it on their site. But if the whims of a beautiful plant do not scare you, then remember about certain rules and procedures related to agricultural technology.
1) First, pick up a good planting material. It is best to choose large stores, reliable nurseries and specialized garden stores for these purposes. Do not take seedlings from dubious private traders. When choosing seedlings, pay more attention to those plants in which the rhizomes are most developed, they do not have mechanical damage.
2) As a rule, planting is carried out in the spring. This will make your seedlings more likely to take root in their new location. If the climate is hot, plant a green rose in the fall. In case you are planning to plant your green roses in the summer, then there is a risk that aggressive sunlight will harm your young shrubs.
3) Gardeners most often use two methods for planting roses. In the case of the first, planting pits are prepared in advance, a plant is planted in them and thoroughly spilled with water. Method number two is a little more difficult. Roses are planted in special containers. The container should be of such a size that the root system of the plant does not feel cramped. It is necessary to make top dressing; for this, gardeners use compost. You can also fertilize the soil with mineral fertilizing. In this case, you need to plant roses in the same way as in the first option. The pit is prepared in advance, a container with seedlings is placed in it, and then covered with soil. After this, the plants must be well watered.
Basic principles of green rose care
It is necessary to take care of such a wayward plant as a green rose regularly and in a timely manner. Watering every week will not be enough to produce abundant blooming of beautiful flowers. So if you still want to see such a beauty on your site, then be prepared to adhere to certain rules for growing:
1) Water your roses regularly and abundantly. This should not be done too often, otherwise the root system will begin to rot.
2) If you are going away for a few days, do not leave your rose without mulch on the ground. So the moisture will continue to persist and the green rose will not die from drought.
3) Periodically, it is necessary to apply fertilizers to the soil. As a rule, this is done at intervals of a couple of weeks. The first time feeding is applied after 10 - 14 days. This must be done in order for the root system to settle in the soil in the best possible way.
4) It is imperative to loosen the soil near the plants. When doing this, remove weeds, as they interfere with the normal growth and development of green roses. Loosening helps aerate the soil (saturation of the earth with oxygen).
5) Inspect your plantings regularly. If any traces of diseases or harmful insects have been found, appropriate control and prevention measures must be taken.
6) Among all the other points, we must not forget about the sanitary and formative pruning of your green roses.
Many summer residents who grow green roses on their plots note that if the plant blooms profusely, then the growth of shoots slows down. For this reason, the first flower ovaries that appear on the shrub are most often removed. Keep track of the number of flowers on the shoots. One should have no more than a couple of flowers. This measure is needed so that the plant also finds strength for the growth and development of young shoots. It also affects the quality of wintering.
Often, gardeners cut rose bushes for the winter. This is not entirely correct. The fact is that short-cut shrubs are likely to freeze out. It is best to prune plants in the spring or late winter.
An important condition for the successful growth of green roses is maintaining the distance between the plants. If the interval is observed correctly, the risk of infection of plants with diseases and pests will sharply decrease. In addition, your roses will receive an equal amount of light and warmth.
How to fertilize a green rose correctly
Green rose is very good for dressings, which are based on mineral components. For normal growth and development, green roses need:
1) Nitrogen-based fertilizers that will help the normal growth of green mass and stems.
2) Phosphorus-containing top dressing. This is necessary in order for the plants to form and develop normally foliage, buds and rhizomes.
3) Potassium fertilizers will help your roses to gain strong immunity against various diseases and pests.
4) Magnesium helps plants grow green mass and also stimulates shoot growth.
It is also a good idea to use organic fertilizing. So, for example, adding humus or compost will be a good help in terms of nourishing your roses.
Experienced gardeners often use the foliar fertilization method. Usually, preparations containing minerals are used for this. For this purpose, many gardeners use Aquarin, Potassium Humate, Rasvorin, Kemira Lux. These are complex fertilizers that contain all the necessary nutrients and elements.
About the pests of the green rose
Often, when the leaves and flowers are developing, various harmful insects attack the shrubs. They destroy the inflorescences, and also spoil the entire decorative appearance of the green rose. We list the most common pests dangerous for the green rose.
1) Rose sawfly (caterpillar). It sucks out the plant debris from the foliage of the plant, thereby disrupting the metabolism of your rose.
2) Ants and rose-colored aphids. These are insects walking side by side. If you see an anthill near the pink plantings, get rid of it immediately. Ants are carriers of aphids.
3) Slobbering penny. This pest spreads foam that is poisonous to plants, and also deprives your bushes of plant sap. Typically, the penny is found at the bottom of the foliage.
4) Leaf rollers. When the shoots of plants begin to ripen, they are right there. They also appear sometimes in the summer.
You can deal with all these pests in different ways. For example, leaflets are assembled by hand. Slobbering penny too. Aphid and ants are exterminated or driven away with insecticides or folk methods. Caterpillars are also collected by hand or destroyed with pesticides.
How to propagate a green rose
It is not easy to propagate a green rose by cuttings, especially for a novice gardener. Before that, you need to thoroughly understand how this is done. There are other methods you can use to propagate your roses:
1) Seed method. This method is the simplest of all. The seeds can be extracted from pink fruits and can also be purchased in stores. In order for your seeds to sprout for sure, they need to be soaked in a solution of hydrogen peroxide for one day. Then sow them into the ground. As a rule, it usually takes one and a half to two months before the first shoots. As a rule, seeds are sown in April.
2) Reproduction by vegetative means. This method is based on the fact that the green rose is able to divide cells. That is, it can renew itself from its different parts (root system, leaves, stems). This is usually done with the help of layering, grafting and the method of dividing the shrub.
3) Division of the bush. From the mother shrub, you need to separate its part along with the roots. Then this part of the bush is transplanted to a permanent place. After that, you need to thoroughly water your plantings and huddle.
4) Vaccination. With the help of layering and offspring, almost no one propagates green roses. It is better to use cuttings for these purposes. So there will be more chances that the plant will take root.
Let's dwell on grafting in more detail. For these purposes, shrubs that grow in greenhouses are usually selected. If you take last year's shoots, then you need to store them in a special way. For this, peat and low temperatures are used.
Usually planted in the spring. The shoot needs to be shortened at the bottom, as well as more correctly (above the kidney from above). It is necessary to leave two leaves on top, they will be responsible for photosynthesis in the future.
The size of the cutting varies, as a rule, from fifteen to seventeen centimeters. It will be very good if there are at least three buds on the stem on the handle.
The cuttings should be installed in the soil at a slight angle. Cuttings are usually planted on a separate bed or in containers, which are filled with peat-based soil. When the cuttings are planted, cover them in a greenhouse environment. To do this, you can use polyethylene or a plastic bottle that is worn over the handle.
The shelter is removed before the first rhizomes appear. This is usually a couple of weeks after planting in the soil. A month later, the bush is dug up and planted in its permanent habitat.
Taking care of a rose is not a process for the faint of heart, but if you follow all the rules of planting and agricultural technology, you can achieve the desired result, and a grateful plant will not keep you waiting and will certainly delight you with its wonderful flowers
