Apple Peach
Content:
Winter varieties of apple trees are considered the elite among fruit trees. Late apples ripen more slowly, accumulate more vitamins, and therefore they are tastier and healthier than early ripening apples. In this article we will consider the "Peach" apple tree.
Breeding history
The apple variety Peaches was obtained in Krasnodar in the NKZNIISiV as a result of hybridization of the varieties "Kuban Spur" and "Calvil snow". Pollination with pollen took place in the gas phase of the supermutagen 1,4-bis-diazoacetylbutane. SN Artyukh, IL Efimova, TG Prichko worked on the breeding of this variety. Since 1999, the Peach variety has been accepted for state variety testing and already in 2002 was entered into the State Register. Due to its advantages, the variety "Peach" is widespread not only in the gardens of amateur gardeners, but also in educational farms, as well as in the farm and industrial gardens of the Stavropol Territory, Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Region, the republics of North Ossetia and Kabardino-Balkaria - it is in these regions that the variety shows its best qualities.

Apple trees of the Peach variety are medium-sized trees of the spur type. Spura varieties are distinguished by close internodes, they are compact, early-growing, and boast excellent yields, because there are many more buds on one tree per unit area, and therefore, flowers and fruits. Such varieties practically do not need pruning, unless only sanitary.
The crown of the tree is initially oval, as it grows, it becomes spreading and sparse, which allows it to be well illuminated, and the plant to set the maximum number of fruits. The main branches are located at an acute angle relative to the trunk, but over time they droop under the weight of the crop. The fruits are tied on spears and ringlets located both on annual shoots and on wood from two to seven years old.
The bark on the trunk and "skeletal" branches is gray, but the shoots are painted in an unusual greenish-burgundy shade. Large pubescent buds are tightly pressed to the branches. Large leaf plates are slightly twisted, their surface is covered with fine wrinkles.
The pink flowers of the Peach apple tree have a strong and pleasant aroma. The variety is self-fertile, so another variety should be planted nearby, also blooming in medium terms, for example, "Aydored", "Korey", "Din Art", "Nymph", "Prikubanskoe", "Renet Kubansky".
In favorable southern conditions, apple trees of the Peach variety can begin to bear fruit as early as the second year, and by the fifth year the yield per hectare (from a thousand trees) will reach from 100 to 150 centners and will constantly grow.
The fruits of the Peach apple tree are large, with an average weight of 260 grams. They have the correct shape, are painted in a light shade of green and are covered on one side with a "blush" with clear strokes of a more saturated red color. Light creamy sweet and sour pulp has a rich pleasant aroma.
Harvested in September. As a rule, the fruits of the Peach apple variety are used for fresh consumption, since they can be stored in proper conditions until the end of winter, but the fruits are great for preparing various dishes and for preserving.
Apple Peach: advantages and disadvantages
The Peach apple variety has many advantages, among which the following qualities can be listed:
- Good immunity. During many years of observations, it was revealed that the tree almost never gets sick with scab and powdery mildew.
- Ability to adapt to environmental conditions. In the climatic conditions of the above regions, the trees demonstrate excellent winter hardiness and drought resistance.
- Excellent taste and marketability of fruits, long shelf life.
- Early maturity and productivity.
- Participation in breeding work. Scientists highly value this variety and pass on such qualities as early maturity, winter hardiness and drought resistance to new varieties.
But in fairness, it is impossible not to voice some of the disadvantages of the Peach apple variety.
- The variety is self-fertile, which means that you will need to pick up a pollinator to get a harvest.
- Peach apple trees are often affected by various types of moth, therefore, every year it will be necessary to pay attention to preventive treatment with insecticides before flowering begins.
From all of the above, we can conclude that the Peach apple tree is a wonderful variety, suitable for both private gardening and for growing on an industrial scale.
