Apple tree Pepin Orlovsky - description and characteristics
The apple tree is large, reaching up to 5-6 meters in height. The crown is round, tree branches with large bends, uneven, they are located close to each other. Because of this branch growth, the tree needs regular pruning. The ends of the branches are directed upwards. The bark of the tree is gray-brown in color with peeling, on the trunk and smooth along the surface of the branches. The length of the branches is uneven, long branches predominate.
The apple tree shoot is large, smooth, burgundy in color. On it are gray lenticels. Buds are small in size, strongly pressed to the surface of the shoot, conical in shape, with a small amount of fluff. The foliage is dense, oval, on one side the leaf is strongly elongated and pointed. The edges of the leaf are wavy, the entire surface is covered with veins and wrinkles. The leaves have two sides, one glossy, dark in color, and the other fluffy, without shine. The petioles are thin, long and weak, so the foliage falls off already in the middle of the season.
Characteristics of the fruits.
Apples of medium weight, about 150 grams. In shape, the fruits are round, wide, with convex sides. The peel is even, smooth, without tubercles. In color, the fruits are yellow-golden, no blush is observed. Sometimes cherry streaks appear near the base of the fruit. On the surface, subcutaneous dots of a gray-yellow color are poorly distinguished. Peduncles are long, thick, curved. The funnels are medium in size, conical, the cups are closed.
The apples are juicy, dense, fine-grained, the flesh is white-yellow. Experts assess the external qualities and taste of the fruit at 9 points. Apples contain various useful substances: titratable acids 0.5%, natural sugars 11%, vitamin C 3%, pectin 1%.
When to harvest
The fruits ripen at the end of September. After collecting them, you need to put them in a cold and dark place, in this state they will retain their taste and appearance for 3 months.
The yield of the tree is high, an adult apple tree can bring about 180 centners per hectare. Also, the variety perfectly tolerates severe frosts and is resistant to fungal diseases. During the experiment, the leaves and fruits of the tree were not affected, since it has a strong immune system.
