The Olympic apple tree belongs to the group of winter ripening time, was obtained at VNIISPK by planting in 1960 the seed material of such an apple variety as "mekintosh" from free pollination, thanks to the work of a group of selection specialists E.N.Sedov, N.G. Krasova and M. V. Mikheeva. The Olimpiyskoe apple variety passed state tests in 1979, and in 1999 it was added to the state register for breeding achievements, and it was allowed to be cultivated in the Lower Volga region.

Apple trees of the Olimpiyskoye variety grow of ordinary dimensions, the crown is round, the density is estimated as average. The main branches are pretty, receding from the trunk at an angle, about ninety degrees. The tips of the branches grow vertically. The stem bark and main branches do not have any irregularities, the color is gray. Most often, the harvest is laid on complex and simple ringlets, small and elongated fruit branches.

The branches are geniculate, faceted in cross-section, the color is brown and brown at the same time, there is a kind of pubescence. Lentils abound, there is pubescence. The foliage is ovoid, small in size, there is a certain point, the upper part has a helical twisted shape, the color is greenish, with wrinkles, glossy, the nerve is assessed as rough. At the edges, the foliage is finely crenate, wavy. The petiole has some kind of pubescence, with anthocyanin. Stipules are small, lanceolate. Fruit buds have a kind of pubescence, large, elongated.

The flowers are of ordinary size, saucer-shaped, pinkish buds with a lilac tint, petals are elongated, light pink, weakly closed, the stigma of the pistil is identical to the anthers.

Features of the variety

The harvest of the Olimpiyskoe apple variety is of ordinary size, all fruits are of the same size and shape, onion, ribbing is poorly expressed. The skin has some irregularities, not oily, dull. The main color is green. The cover color is expressed as connected strokes of brown and red color on almost the entire apple. The fruit stem is small, but plump, crooked. The funnel is small, wide, no rust is observed. The saucer is small, narrow, with grooves. The calyx is completely closed. The heart part is large, bulbous. The seed chambers are of ordinary size, fully open. The tube, located under the cup, is of ordinary size, hollow-shaped. Seeds of ordinary velechina, egg-shaped, brown color.

The pulp of Olympic apples is greenish, the density is estimated as medium, rather tender, full of juice, sour and sweet to taste at the same time, good taste, delicate aroma. The experts rated the marketable appearance of apples at four point and three tenths on a five-point system, tasters rated the taste at four point and two tenths on a five-point system. Apples contain:

• sugar - ten and a half percent.
• titratable acids - one percent.
• ascorbic acid - sixteen milligrams per hundred grams of raw product.
• P-active substances - three hundred and sixteen milligrams per hundred grams of raw product.
• pectin substances - eleven and a half percent.

The harvest of the Olympic apple tree can be kept up to the third week of the second winter month.

The apple-tree of the Olimpiyskiy variety is fast-growing, no worse than the apple-variety "pepin saffron". The amount of harvest is much greater than that of the second, about one hundred seventy-two centners from each hectare, while the second brings one hundred and forty-five centners from each hectare. This variety of apples has a good level of resistance to cold and frost in the middle zone of our country. In the 1968-1969 winter season without snow, the temperature in the ground reached minus fifteen degrees by twenty centimeters, and at a depth of forty centimeters it reached minus ten, the apple trees did not suffer much, by about one point, and the second variety was hit by two points ... The level of resistance to some diseases is satisfactory.
