Apple tree Red Hill
Content:
The apple tree is perhaps the most popular and widespread fruit tree, not only in private but also in industrial production. The fruits of this culture are loved by both adults and children, they are used for various purposes, due to which the selection of this tree is actively moving forward. At this point in time, gardeners are faced with a difficult choice of apple varieties for growing, since there are now a huge number of different subspecies of this culture. They differ in tree structure; fruiting period; on the quality and characteristics of the fruit and many other parameters. Therefore, before purchasing this or that variety, first decide on your desires and preferences. In this article, we will take a closer look at one of the apple tree subspecies, such as the Krasnaya Gorka apple tree, learn all about its cultivation and care, and also talk about all the pros and cons.
Apple tree Red Hill: variety description and characteristics

Apple-tree Krasnaya Gorka is a representative of summer varieties. The variety appeared thanks to the works of a group of scientists from the Lisavenko M.A. Research Institute of Horticulture in Siberia, and was included in the program of state tests in 1969. The subspecies was bred by crossing varieties such as Gornoaltaiskoe, Belfleur-Kitayka and Melba. These apple varieties were able to convey their best features to the subspecies in question, which he not only adopted, but even surpassed some of them. Currently, this culture is already included in the State Register and zoned in the West Siberian region.
Advantages and disadvantages of the apple tree Krasnaya Gorka
Taking into account all the main characteristics and distinctive features of the variety, we can highlight its advantages and disadvantages. Thus, the advantages of the Red Hill apple tree include:
- Regular and abundant harvest of ripe fruits, which, above all, is also of high quality.
- A good indicator of frost resistance.
- The tree has a rather comfortable shape.
The disadvantages of the Krasnaya Gorka apple tree include the fact that in a rather dry summer period, during a lack of moisture in the soil, the fruits of this tree not only become smaller, but also begin to crumble prematurely.
Morphological signs
The apple tree Krasnaya Gorka is endowed with a rather compact size, its height does not exceed two meters, as well as a small round and completely non-thickened crown. This crown consists of a small number of short shoots of small size and brownish-red tint. These shoots are round in cross section and pubescent, have a large number of ringlets and fruits, and the future harvest is formed on them. The leaves of this tree are also small. They have a rich emerald color and an oval shape with a pointed tip, along the edges there is a serration. There is pubescence on the underside of such a leaf. The flowers are not large in size, endowed with pure white or white-pink petals.
Features of apples Red slide
Apples Krasnaya Gorka are very small, each apple can reach 55 grams. They are round and one-dimensional. The fruit has a fairly regular shape, flattened in the middle. The surface of the fruit is covered with a thin skin, rather tender. The color of such a skin is yellow, and it is covered almost over the entire surface of the hearth with a rich red blush, which diverges from the center to the periphery of the apple with beautiful, fairly even strokes and rays. The subcutaneous points are quite clearly visible. The apple's stalk is of medium length and slender. The inside of the fruit is creamy with pinkish veins. It is quite juicy and pleasant in consistency. This pulp has a delicate pleasant aroma and sweet taste, with a small amount of acidity. This inner part contains 13.4 percent sugars, 18 milligrams per 100 grams of ascorbic acid product. The palatability of the fruit of this tree was rated with a rather high tasting rating.
Productivity and frequency of fruiting
The Krasnaya Gorka apple tree bears fruit every year, without any interruptions. The yield is at a fairly high level and can be 35 kilograms from each plant.
Hardiness to frost and immunity to diseases
The apple tree Krasnaya Gorka can survive the winter period of the year quite well, and does not require special additional measures to prepare for wintering. Due to its small size, the culture is not afraid of cold winter winds. It is worth noting the high immunity to such a disease as scab.

Disembarkation
An important fact should be noted right away: before you finally make the choice of a site for planting, you need to take into account the size of the tree rhizome at maturity, as well as the plant's requirements for the growing environment. The rhizome of this tree at maturity is twice the size of its crown. The main part of this plant is at a depth of 70 centimeters, on average. The landing site should be on a sufficiently lit side of the infield. There should not be a surface bed of groundwater, so that the plant rhizomes do not rot. Planting a seedling of this variety can be carried out in the autumn, in the second half of September, but focusing on the weather conditions at the same time, and in the spring period of the year, approximately in the second half of April. But before planting this plant, you should prepare a planting hole in advance, which should have a circumference of about a meter and a depth of about 80 centimeters. While digging the planting hole, the upper fertile soil layer should be mixed with organic matter or humus, due to which you will improve the properties of the soil. A small peg is driven into the middle of the hole, which will later serve as a support for the seedling. There, in the center of the hole, a seedling is placed and sprinkled with a soil mixture prepared in advance. Then the planted seedling is tied to a peg and watered with water. Due to the fact that this variety does not have a large size and high growth, then when planting several seedlings at once, the distance between them can be left only about 180 centimeters. This is quite enough for the normal growth and development of trees.
The rather heavy and harsh winter period of Siberia greatly influences the growth of various crops. Moreover, this affects both disembarkation and departure. The most important factor when landing in this region is the right place: this site should be on the south side; the place of future growth must be sufficiently protected from winds that can damage the surface of the tree. It is also worth noting that when planting, the root collar of the plant should not be deep in the soil. On the contrary, it should be on the surface of the soil in order to exclude the likelihood of the tree bark getting wet and subsequently rotting.
Pruning
A mandatory measure for the care of this fruit tree is the pruning procedure. It should be done twice a year. In the autumn, it is worth carrying out sanitary pruning, during which weak and damaged shoots are cut off, before the winter period. In the spring, formative pruning of the crown is done, while removing the stems that do not yield, but draw out the forces of the tree. These stems include inwardly growing crowns, old branches that are no longer fruiting, weak and diseased.
Top dressing and watering
The watering procedure should be carried out from the spring period until the end of autumn. They begin to water the plant at the time of bud formation and continue with an interval of 14 days, for an adult tree, and also taking into account the weather conditions. For trees at a young age, watering should be done as the topsoil dries out near the trunk circle. In the spring, this tree is fed with ammonium nitrate. And from the moment the budding begins and until the formation of fruits, it is worth feeding the plant with nutrient mixtures based on phosphorus, at the root. In the fall, they feed with organic matter and mineral potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. Due to this, the tree's resistance to frost will increase. It is also good to feed this culture with microelements for green mass. This will not only have a remarkable effect on the quality of the crop, but also increase the immunity of the tree.
Pollinating varieties
The variety in question is considered a self-pollinated subspecies, due to which it does not need to find other apple varieties nearby.
Fruiting and ripening period

The first fruiting period for the Krasnaya Gorka apple tree begins fairly soon after planting. Already in 2-3 years, the first harvest can be harvested, though not in such a large amount. And in the fifth year of life, the tree begins to produce a crop in full.
The flowering period for this subspecies begins at the very beginning of May, and after a week this plant is completely covered with flowers of a rather saturated shade and aroma.
The apple tree Krasnaya Gorka belongs to crops with a summer ripening period. The fruits of this tree can already be harvested closer to mid-August. The fruits can retain their properties and characteristics for about a month in the refrigerator.
Experienced gardeners advise, in order to gain part of the harvest of the greatest mass and best quality, in early August, remove 35 percent of the harvest, due to which the rest will be poured further.
Growing regions
Due to the fact that the Krasnaya Gorka apple variety was obtained at the Siberian Institute of Breeding, it is primarily intended for cultivation in the regions of Siberia and the Urals. Based on this, it becomes obvious that additional agrotechnical actions are not needed for cultivation in these regions.
Often, gardeners are worried about the following question: what to do if the top of the Krasnaya Gorka apple tree is frozen? The answer to this question is this: The frozen part is carefully removed. The cut site should be treated with garden varnish so that infection with fungal or bacterial microorganisms does not occur.
Apple tree Krasnaya Gorka: reviews
Apple-tree Red Hill is most suitable for private cultivation. It is not capricious and simple enough to grow, gives a constant and very tasty harvest, is endowed with good resistance to cold weather and scab disease, which is undoubtedly very important. Therefore, we can conclude that in comparison with other early varieties that are intended for cultivation in Siberia and the Urals, this subspecies is rightfully in the lead.
On the Internet, you can find a huge number of reviews about that variety of apple trees. Here are some of them:
- About 6 years ago, we purchased a seedling of this variety and planted it on our site. We bought and planted a subspecies in order to eat delicious apples in the summer and roll up compotes. The yield level was not entirely pleasing, but the variety was pleased with the fact that it is rather unpretentious in care, has a rapid increase and soon produces a harvest. The fruits were also delighted: very juicy and tasty, fragrant and with beautiful scarlet barrels. In general, we were satisfied with the apple tree. Now we advise all friends.

- I absolutely did not like the Krasnaya Gorka apple variety. It has been growing on the site for a very long time, it has remained from the previous owners. I didn't like the taste of Krasnaya Gorka apples, they are sour and very small. The tree itself is also uncomfortable in shape: squat and branches stick out in all sorts of directions.Apples are not only impossible to eat fresh, but they are also unsuitable for conservation!

- Apple tree Red Hill has long been a classic and good subspecies. The fruits are very beautiful and taste good. In the summer, children adore them. The apple tree of the Krasnaya Gorka variety itself is small in size, rather compact and neat in shape. I didn't have any difficulties and hassle in leaving with this variety. Ideally, in my opinion, a variety is suitable for growing by beginners.
