Apple Chara

The Chara apple tree is a late summer one, it was obtained at the Novosibirsk zonal fruit and berry experimental station by pollination of the "resistant ranetki" variety with a mixture of pollen of various autumn varieties, bringing large apples, thanks to the work of a group of specialists in breeding A. A. Hristo, R. A Bykova, N. Ye. Yurieva. The apple tree Chara is included in the state register in the West Siberian region of fruit growing; it can be found in the industrial areas of Novosibirsk and Kemerovo, as well as among new summer residents in Eastern and Western Siberia.

The apple tree of the Chara variety grows of ordinary size, the crown is spherical, but over the years it changes to a wide rounded one, the density is assessed as good. The main branches and the standard bark are green and brown at the same time, there are no irregularities on the bark. The process of offering a mixed crop, mainly fruits are laid on annual branches, as well as simple and complex ringlets.

The branches of the Chara apple variety grow straight, medium-sized, dark brown in color, small lentils are located on the surface. The buds do not extend from the trunk, green and brown at the same time. The foliage is large, leathery, green, does not have any irregularities, there are no villi, elongated-ovoid with a slight curvature of the upper part at the edges. The petiole is small, of medium size, located on the branch at an angle, approximately forty-five degrees. Stipules are small, narrow-lanceolate.

The flowers are of ordinary size, white and pinkish in color, elongated whole petals, the stigma is located higher than the anthers.

Features of the variety

The fruits of the Chara apple tree are quite small, most often the weight of one fruit reaches fourteen grams, and sometimes even thirty-five grams, the shape is flattened or round, the ribbing is weakly expressed. The skin does not have any irregularities, is not matte, the density is ordinary, the main color is yellow, the integumentary color is saturated red, it occupies almost the entire apple. The funnel is of ordinary depth, the saucer is not observed. The cup does not fall off, is completely closed, there is a small side. The fruit stem is thin, the size varies from small to large, depending on the placement.

The fruit pulp of the Chara apple tree is creamy, full of juice, sweet and sour at the same time, the density is estimated as medium. Seeds of light brown color, ordinary size. The fruits contain:

• sugar - fifteen percent.
• titratable acids - one percent.
• ascorbic acid - thirty milligrams per hundred grams of raw product.
• catechins - six hundred seventy one milligrams per hundred grams of raw product.

Characteristics of the Chara apple variety

The ability to transport apples over long distances is good, suitable for making fresh juice, compote or puree.

Harvest at the Chara apple tree late summer ripening. On a fruit tree, when overripe, apples crack with excessive precipitation or are poured in the autumn season without precipitation. Suitable for consumption raw and after thermal processing, they are kept for two to three months.

Apple Chara has low self-fertility, which means it requires varieties that will pollinate it, we recommend:
