Growing carrots: secrets
Content:
Despite the fact that carrots are a rather unpretentious crop, it is still necessary to be more careful about the choice of the place where the planting will take place. Further in the article: growing carrots.
Growing carrots: yield when properly planted
You can get a good and healthy harvest of carrots only when they are planted in fairly loose and light soils. Sandy and sandy loam soil is best suited for this. But, again, it all depends on the variety of carrots, as well as on what requirements are presented in the instructions for planting. Therefore, it is extremely important to familiarize yourself with it when planting, in order to get a decent and painless harvest as a result, which will be stored for a long time and please both the gardener himself and his household.
Growing carrots: soil preparation
The soil should be prepared in the fall: first it is dug up, then fertilized with mineral additives, which will not only provoke the growth of carrots in the future, but also rid the soil of harmful parasites and bacteria that can cause dangerous diseases and fungi. As a rule, urea, superphosphate and potassium chloride are used for fertilization. If we are talking about organic fertilizers, then it is best to apply them to areas where nothing has been planted before.
Upon the arrival of spring, it will be enough to loosen the soil, to make it lighter. To do this, you can only walk with a rake. As for lighting, carrots are quite undemanding here too. But still, you should focus on the fact that carrots will not grow in deep shade. If we are talking about moisture, then things are a little more complicated here: carrots cannot be waterlogged, this can lead to rotting, slowing growth. It is best not to plant it in areas where there is a high occurrence of groundwater. If, nevertheless, there is only this site for planting, then it is imperative to create an artificial drainage system that will retain moisture in itself.
Sowing
If we talk about crop rotation (about what can grow in the same area before planting carrots), then cucumbers or potato crops, cabbage are considered favorites here. It is impossible for parsley, dill, celery, and other umbrella crops to grow in the same place. They can predominantly spread their seeds, which are rather difficult to remove from the soil. It is also worth noting that the umbrella attracts a large number of bacteria, fungi that infect the soil. These fungi are difficult to remove from the soil, so they can persist and affect carrots in the future.
Care
It is also worth noting that the growth of carrots in the territory depends on its variety, and it must also be borne in mind that carrots can be of different sizes, must have concentrated and limited watering, care, fertilization. If you allow an excess of moisture, then the carrots can simply crack, which will lead to damage to the entire crop. Such carrots do not have any useful properties, do not have bright taste, and also cannot be stored for a long time.
Carrots also need to receive a decent feeding with potassium and superphosphate substances. Special mixtures are sold in shops for gardeners in various forms (powders, granules, solutions), as well as at an affordable and attractive price for gardeners and gardeners, which is also an advantage.
