Growing apricots in central Russia
It is quite difficult to grow an apricot in your garden, given the climate of Siberia and central Russia, but still, given the climate of your area and choosing a variety for yourself, by giving it the right care, you can get a fairly large harvest. Moreover, the seedlings need to be bought in special nurseries, otherwise, instead of the desired variety, you may not know what.
For planting apricots, you need to choose a slope where there is the most sunlight, the place should be protected from cold winds. It is best if it grows along the house or fence. There should be a lot of worms in the earth, then the earth will be more fertile.
It is necessary to plant apricots in the spring at the end of April, but the planting site is prepared in the fall. Several different varieties of apricot must grow nearby so that they pollinate each other, because there are simply no self-fertile varieties.
You need to dig a hole, pour fertile soil into it along with fertilizer. We put a seedling with open roots in the center of the pit, and cover it with earth, constantly shaking it so that the earth is as dense as possible. Next to the seedling, you need to drive a stake, and tie the apricot to it. Around the planted plant, you need to dig a trench and pour water into it.
The first three days the seedling needs to be watered twice a day, in the future it will be enough twice a week.
In the sixth year of life, the apricot begins to yield, but until that time, you need to regularly, once a month, make additional fertilizing, and after each watering, loosen the soil. At times, the seedling needs to be hilled, then the roots will not grow in depth, and will receive more solar heat, and hilling for the winter promotes warming, and fights against freezing of the seedling.
