The Shalunya cherry variety was bred in Ukraine. This republic, the former USSR, warm and sunny, was called "cherry" for a reason. Institute Horticultural Center named after Sidorenko in Melitopol (Melitopol Experimental Station ISNAAN) is famous for numerous developments of cherry and cherry varieties of fruit trees. It still has a huge benefit in the spread of fruit crops: almost all (90 percent) varieties of cherry trees, zoned in Ukraine, were bred in Melitopol.
The selection of the variety considered in this article was carried out in Zaporozhye in the 1960s, and the variety was officially registered in the 66th. The Turovtsev family couple (Nikolai and Valentina) are considered the authors-breeders of the Shalunya cherry varieties. Bred Cherry Minx from cherry and cherry Samsonovka and Duke Kievskaya-19. As a result, an interesting hybrid appeared, which is distinguished by excellent productivity and large, delicious fruits).
Cherry Minx immediately began to spread well among Ukrainian horticultural farms, and in 1997 it was included in the State Register of Russia for the North Caucasus region.

Horticultural professionals call the Minx cherry a universal high-quality variety with excellent marketability, taste, high yield, and good resistance to many diseases.
This cherry is self-fertile, that is, in order to obtain impressive yields of this juicy cherry, it is necessary to plant pollinating trees of other varieties next to the Minx tree. Cherries "Samsonovka", "Chernokorki", cherries "Winky" and "Valery Chkalov" can serve as such perfectly.
The cherry variety Minx has a mid-ripening rate of ripening. This cherry ripens in different ways, depending on where it is planted. For example, in his native land - in the city of Melitopol - Minx ripens by the end of June. Of course, it must be borne in mind that only in the third season will it give a crop.
If cherries are properly cared for, all agrotechnical requirements are observed, then for the 5-6th year it will give a harvest of 15-20 kg from one tree, and in the 10th year - up to 40 kg.
Cherry Minx - one of the most delicious varieties of cherries, has a tonic, sweet-sour taste (4.8 points). It contains almost 10.5 percent sugars, about 1 percent acid and 16 percent dry matter.

Minus Cherry varieties Minx is freezing of the buds at minus 25. At the same time, such frost does not affect the state of the tree, bark, branches, however, buds on flower buds can die in an amount of up to 58 percent of the total. A similar "effect" can occur during the period of recurrent frosts: frost can destroy up to 30 percent of flowers.
Cherry Minx: planting and care

The beginning of a competent planting is the right place in the garden. Let's talk about several conditions due to which a beautiful fruit plant will grow.
First, it is a sunny spot (south side of the garden area). The soil should not be constantly moistened by the presence of groundwater somewhere nearby, since waterlogging entails excessive freezing of the soil, and hence the death of young trees.
Secondly, the soil should be loamy or sandy loam.
Now it should be mentioned about the basic requirements for planting this given variety. Planting work of seedlings is carried out in the spring before flowering or in the autumn, no later than the twenties of September.
Pits are dug - 0.5-0.6 m deep, 0.6-0.7 m in diameter. As a rule, the root system of the seedlings should, without squeezing, enter the groove. Then, the root collar is deepened and carefully covered with a soil mixture (humus, superphosphate - 35 g and potassium chloride - 20 g). As a result, it should rise above the ground by about 6 cm.
As soon as the seedlings are installed in the pits, and the roots are sprinkled with soil, the near-stem section is compacted in diameter. Further, funnels with low earthen ramparts are formed, departing from the standard center 0.30-0.35 meters. Up to 3 buckets of settled water are poured into the formed funnels, after which it is worth waiting a little for the earth to settle a little. Further, in conclusion, mulching is carried out with compost or sawdust.
Traditionally, loosening of the soil, removal of weeds, and regular pruning of shoots are used as care for this cherry variety. Let's say about pruning separately: the removal of excess and weak branches is carried out in the spring, as well as the removal of an excess mass of roots. After seven to eight seasons, it will be necessary to remove the drying out central branches, not forgetting to start preparing strong root shoots before that.
An important step in the proper care of cherries of the Minx variety is the provision of high-quality soil for the plants. If you notice excessive acidity of the soil, and it is harmful to cherries, then a lime solution must be added to it (about once every five years). This action will balance the acidity of the soil to the desired value.
About diseases and pests of Minx
Cherry Minx is distinguished by excellent resistance to many diseases characteristic of fruit trees, namely, to coccomycosis, moniliosis. These are very dangerous fungal diseases.
The cherry variety Minx can be disturbed by rodents, which in winter actively eat trunks with bark and lower branches if the trees are not protected. Traditionally, the trunk and lower branches are protected with a special net or some kind of dense fabric.
