Cherry Novoaltaiskaya
Content:
The very carefully selected seedlings of the Stepnaya cherry variety are the ancestors (predecessors) of the Novoaltaiskaya cherry variety. All work on the breeding of this variety took place on the territory of the Research Institute of Horticulture of the Siberian region, named after GI Schubbotin, and the process of regionalization of the Novoaltayskaya variety began in 1974.
Cherry Novoaltaiskaya description and characteristics
A very dwarf bush, it can grow up to only 70 centimeters. Forms many trunks. A fairly dense crown, the formation of which occurs in the form of a ball. The bark of the branches of the bush is painted in gray, the structure is smooth, a lot of lentils are formed, white in tone and smallish in size. Each shoot forms a right angle when developing from the trunk, the same gray color, rather thin. Shortish internodes. Conical formation of smallish buds, dull limbs. Leathery condition, small-sized leaf plates, oblong-oval shape, the base is formed in the form of a wedge, the tip is blunt-pointed. The leaf plates are smooth, painted in a light green color, there is a shine in the leaf coating, along the edge there is a double-claw type serration, small in size. The leaf petioles are purple-colored, the glandular is yellow, smallish in size, almost invisible, there is no stipules.
Flowers of small form, form an inflorescence of 5 pieces, pink-shaped, white in color. Up to 1.7 mm in diameter. The petals form an oval-elongated shape, from 4 to 7 mm, the color of the bud occurs in pale pink tones. Sepals are oval in shape, 4 to 6 mm in length.
Oval-shaped fruits, in size do not exceed 13 mm, in width only up to 9 mm, the weight of the fruit is also relatively small, not more than 2.4 grams, the color is predominantly monophonic, saturated red. The dense consistency of the pulp is colored with a pink tint and is very juicy in content. A short stalk, no more than 20 mm, very thin, no more than 1.5 mm in diameter. A small, oval-shaped bone, the weight of which is very small, no more than 0.10 grams. Differs in quite mediocre taste, predominantly more sour taste. The stalk is very firmly attached to the twigs, which greatly complicates the collection of fruits.
Chemical content of berries: 13.3% - dry matter content, various sugars make up almost 10.2%, acids do not exceed 2.0% in the composition, vitamin P is 200 mg per 100 grams, and vitamin C is only 40 mg per 100 grams of product.
Features of the variety
Mass ripening of fruits occurs in the third decade of July, the average indicators of the transportability of the crop. The active growth of shoots stops almost at the same time, after the 20th of July, active leaf fall will stop only in the 3rd decade of September, or will continue until October 8-15. The variety perfectly tolerates climatic adversities such as heat and prolonged drought. The yield from each bush, based on statistical data, does not exceed 3.8 kilograms, which is an average indicator. Only with increased care, appropriate weather conditions, proper nutrition, cherry bushes of this variety are able to bring a systematic yield of up to 6.6 kilograms from each tree.
Variety Novoaltaiskaya cherry - refers to highly winter-resistant crop species, the yield is quite attractive, given the growth of the shrub.Self-infertile, according to agricultural technology, it belongs to technical varieties, but a very weak immunity to the disease, coccomycosis, is considered a disadvantage. The ball was attracted to breeding work for its improved qualities to cold climatic conditions, good yield, and undersized growth. The most optimal pollinators for this variety will be: Subbotinskaya, Maksimovskaya, The desired, Altai swallow.
Cherry Novoaltaiskaya: pros and cons
Among the advantages of Novoaltaiskaya cherry can be emphasized:
- increased yields relative to the growth of the shrub;
- well, the very growth of a dwarf size, contributing to easy harvesting and carrying out all the work on the care of the crop.
There are not so many disadvantages of the variety, but perhaps they will become a significant fact when choosing Novoaltaiskaya cherries for planting on their plots:
- if the snow cover during wintering is very large, then the root system is able to start heating up;
- a large amount of unnecessary, even inconvenient growth is formed around the bush;
- fruits are relatively small in size;
- when propagated by green cuttings, a very small percentage of seedlings are able to take root;
- very poor tolerance to the disease, coccomycosis, which gives gardeners extra trouble, it is necessary to organize additional, preventive work to prevent such a disease.
