Cherry Melody was bred at the Dubovsky support point of the NV Research Institute of Agriculture, by such breeders as R.V. Korneev and L.K. Zhukova. The variety appeared as a result of sowing seeds of such a variety as Zhukovskaya, from free pollination. This culture was entered into the State Register in 2001 for the Lower Volga region.
Cherry Melody: variety description and characteristics
Trees of the Melody cherry variety are considered to be medium-growing and have an average height. The crown of the tree is round and lush, slightly raised. The bark on the main branches and on the trunk has a flaky structure and a reddish tint. This plant has arched, medium-sized shoots, which are brown-brown in color. There are a small number of lentils on the plant, they are very small and yellow in color. The foliage is narrow and medium, has an obovate shape, an elongated pointed, matte and smooth surface, and also a dark green color. Leaflets are concave, curved downward. The upper part of the leaf gradually passes into the spout, and its base is round. On the edge, the leaf is serrate-crenate and wavy. Stipules are of medium size and fall off quite early. The petiole is medium in size and green in color. Glands 1-2, medium-sized, round and yellow in color. The flowers of this variety also have an average size, with white petals, bell-shaped, in one bud most often there are 3-4 pieces, less often there are 2. Fruit formations are most often located on bouquet branches and fruit twigs.
The fruits of the Melody cherry variety are of medium size. One such berry has a weight of about 4 grams, a dark red color and a heart-shaped round shape. The abdominal suture on the berry is very small, barely noticeable. The peduncle is endowed with an average thickness and length, and is also not completely firmly attached to the stone. Separation of a sufficiently dry fruit from the stalk. The inner part of the fruit has a dark red hue, quite juicy, has a sweet-sour wonderful taste. The bone is separated from the inside quite well. This bone has a smooth structure, medium size and ovoid shape. This subspecies has a universal purpose. Berries can be eaten both in unprocessed, fresh form, and you can make jam and various compotes from them. When evaluated, such compotes have 4.7 points. The berries of this variety contain substances such as: acids - 1.35 percent, sugars - 8.49 percent, dry matter - 14.37 percent, as well as ascorbic acid in an amount of 17.84 milligrams per 100 grams of product. Fruit ripening occurs early, towards the end of June. The subspecies is partially self-fertile and has a high yield level. On average, the yield of Melody cherries for 6 years was 83.6 centners from 8-13-year-old plants per hectare, with a feeding area of 5 by 2 meters. The fruiting period for the Melody cherry variety begins 3-4 years after the seedling is planted. There were no cases of freezing of the aboveground parts of the tree, which is not to say about the fruit buds of the plant. Also, diseases bypassed this variety.
