Cherry Lotovaya: variety description and characteristics
Cherry of the Lotovaya variety grows up to 2 meters in height, that is, it has an average tree size. In adulthood, you can see a well-formed crown, which is spreading and slightly lowered, while the distance between the branches is large enough, therefore pruning is rarely done. The crown density is average. The branches of the tree are skeletal and grow at a specific angle of 60 degrees from the trunk. The bark of the tree is smooth and has a brownish-gray color.
Every year, new branches appear on the tree of the Lotovaya cherry variety, which have small internodes and a special touch of gray. Buds that are on medium-sized branches. The foliage is large, in shape it resembles a strongly elongated oval. At the same time, denticles can be seen at the edges, as well as small veins on the surface of the entire leaf.
When flowering begins, a large number of flowers appear on the Lotovaya cherry tree, which, in 2-4 pieces, are collected in a single inflorescence. Flowers are of the saucer type. The petals lie tightly in relation to each other, they go over each other, forming a round flower. The petals are 16 millimeters wide and 13 millimeters long. Their base is round, and the top is bifurcated. The pistil is medium in size, about 10 millimeters, the anthers are 8 millimeters, and below them you can see the stigma. The pedicels of each flower are green, about 3 centimeters. Fruiting in cherries is mixed, but usually the berries appear on young shoots or shoots of the last year.
Characteristics of the fruits.
Cherries of the Lotovaya variety are medium in size, usually 5 grams, but sometimes 6-7 grams can be seen. Such a mass is achieved only by proper tree care and application of fertilizing at the necessary periods. The berries are of the correct round shape, the color of the fruits is red-burgundy, a slight compression can be seen on the sides. Funnels of fruits are small and wide, like many other varieties of cherries. The pulp of the fruit is juicy, but consists of fibers, therefore it is very dense and elastic to the touch. Cherry tastes sweet and sour, but when fully ripe, it becomes sweet, so the gardener does not have to worry about it. Inside the pulp there is a large stone, it makes up about 4% of the total weight of the berry. The bone is elongated and sharp, it simply separates from the pulp. Fruit stalks of Lotovaya cherries are easily separated only when the berries are fully ripe.
The fruits of the Lotovaya cherry variety contain 18.9% of dry matter, 12% of natural sugars, 4% of acids, 17% of vitamin C, 7% of nutrients.
Harvesting
The first crop appears already 4 years after planting or grafting of cherries. The flowering process in the Lotovaya cherry variety is observed in the early period, while ripening in the tree at a later time. The crop is usually harvested in early or mid August.
Note: The harvest and maturity of the crop is highly dependent on the climate in which the cherry is planted. In hot climates, cherries ripen faster and can be harvested in late July. In normal or cold climates, maturity occurs only in August.
Due to the fact that the stalk is firmly attached to the fruit, the berries do not crumble and remain on the branches until they are harvested. The amount of harvest is about 16 kilograms from one Lotovaya cherry for 14 years. The amount of the crop directly depends on the care and fertilization applied during the period of fruit formation.
Cherry Lotovaya: reviews of gardeners
- Tamara Vasilievna, Leningrad region: “I have been growing the Lotovaya cherry variety for a long time. During these years there have been droughts and very severe cold winters. Cherry Lotovaya calmly survived all these climatic disasters. It also had to be transplanted from place to place in order to enable other more capricious crops to grow. And the Lotovaya cherry has always taken root in a new place! "
- Evgeny Viktorovich, Moscow region: “First of all, Lotovaya cherry attracts with its appearance and no less wonderful taste of berries. What is very important for me as a gardener, this cherry does not need pollination, and generally does it on its own. "
