Cherry is one of the most widespread and frequently grown garden plants, which is especially popular in almost all regions of our country. Of course, there are still disputes among professional gardeners about which variety is the best. One of these varieties is Gurtyevka cherry, which everyone likes not only for its wonderful taste, but also for its outstanding physiological qualities. In this article, we invite you to consider the pros and cons of this plant, as well as find out all of its features.
Variety history
Cherry Gurtievka was obtained by crossing two other varieties of cherry, which means that it is a hybrid. The maternal varieties are cherry Zhukovskaya and Orlovskaya early.
The first breeder who bred the Gurtyevka cherry variety is A.F. Kolesnikova. The discovery of the variety belongs to the All-Russian Research Institute of Selection of Fruit Crops.
Gurtyevka cherry was introduced into the varietal register in 2001, and it remains quite popular and well-known to this day.

Of course, like any other variety, Gurtyevka cherry has its own distinctive features, which we suggest you consider below:
Wood
The Gurtyevka cherry tree itself reaches a height of about three meters. It should also be noted that it is fast-growing, and therefore it will not take long to wait for its complete transformation into an adult plant.
The crown has a rather interesting shape: it can be described as a reverse pyramid. It is quite wide, even in relation to the height of the tree, but at the same time it is rather rare. However, this only plays into the hands of the fruits, which receive more solar energy.
The leaves of the Gurtyevka cherry variety have an ovoid shape, and their tips are only slightly pointed. There are also small scars around the edges.
The color of the leaf plates varies: in young trees it is quite light, but with age it becomes more and more dark green.
The surface of the leaves can be described as dull, and a large number of visible veins can be found on them. However, they do not differ in a brighter color, and therefore stand out exclusively by changing the relief of the leaf plate.
The petiole on which the leaf is held is approximately thirty-six millimeters long, and its thickness is approximately three millimeters. It deviates from the shoot by more than forty-five degrees, and as it grows, it can bend very strongly.
Fruit
Gurtievka cherries themselves are formed from flowers that grow in inflorescences of four. Their corolla has a diameter of about two centimeters, as well as an open shape. The petals of the flowers are white, arranged symmetrically to each other.
The flower leaves of the pistil are located slightly lower than its anthers. The length of the pistil is approximately equal to six and a half millimeters, and the stamens are approximately seven and a half millimeters long.
The calyx itself has the shape of a glass, and its sepals are very sharply pointed and straightened.
Gurtievka cherries themselves have a mass equal to approximately three and a half to four grams. Their shape is very close to spherical, but on the sides they are slightly flattened: in height they reach about eleven millimeters, and in width - about ten and a half.
The funnel of the fruit is not very deep, but the stalk still holds quite tightly. As for the color of the fruit, if the cherry has reached ideal ripeness, it is rather dark. The flesh of cherries is no less red than their rind. However, if you pick an unripe fruit, its flesh will be quite pale.
The density of the Gurtyevka cherry variety is also average. They are not too soft, but not too hard either. As they say, the golden mean. The same can be said about the amount of juice. Not completely dry, but separating the seeds will not spatter the entire kitchen.
The stalk is approximately forty-five millimeters long and about half a centimeter thick. The fruit comes off the stalk almost freely. But not so free as to fall off before ripening.
As for the bone, it separates from the pulp quite well and there are practically no problems with this. Its mass is approximately four percent of the mass of the entire fruit, and its color is dark yellow. Even when eating fruit without separating the bone, it does not prick in the mouth and practically does not interfere. Separates and spits out without any problems.
Speaking about the taste qualities of Gurtyevka cherries, it should be noted that, of course, there is no dispute about tastes. Some people like sour berries, while others like sweet ones. However, this variety has a fairly good balance of its flavor range, and therefore, although its rating is only four points, it can definitely please everyone.
It should also be noted the decorative qualities of the fruit, which are manifested with the best care. In this case, they, like taste, are estimated at approximately four points.
Also, we must not forget that fruits are valuable not only because of their taste and presentation, but also because of the useful substances they contain.
Cherry Gurtyevka: cultural features
Flowering cherry variety Gurtyevka begins quite early - in the first decade of May, and the fruits begin to ripen in early - mid-June. At the same time, almost all cherries bloom at the same time, which, of course, is very convenient.
The first fruiting begins in the fourth year of the plant's life. Flowers appear on growths that appeared last year, and therefore, when pruning, you should be careful not to remove them ahead of time.
A huge advantage of the Gurtyevka cherry variety is that it is self-fertile, and therefore you do not need to plant additional plants with this cherry that would serve as pollinators.
From one hectare of planting, you can get approximately seventy-three and three-tenths of a centner of a crop. Also, do not forget that the variety is relatively winter hardy, and also tolerates dry seasons well. It is also resistant to certain diseases such as coccomycosis or moniliosis.
The use of the variety can be completely different: it is grown both in private gardens for personal needs, and in large fields for sale and production on an industrial scale.
Also, sometimes the Gurtyevka cherry variety is used as a parent for breeding others by breeding. It provides the hybrid with good winter hardiness, early ripening and, of course, the quality of the fruit.
