The height of a tree of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya variety does not exceed 3 meters. It develops with a rounded, slightly spreading and medium thickened crown, about 3 - 3.5 meters in diameter.
Young cherries of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya variety bear fruit on short annual growths, no more than 6 cm long. These branches are also called bouquet branches, since the fruit buds are collected in a kind of bunches. Fruiting of mature trees occurs with the growth of the current year.
The bark of the trunk, as well as of the skeletal branches, is smooth, has a dark brown color with a slightly noticeable gray bloom. The number of formations located on the trunk, the so-called lentils, intended for gas exchange processes, is small.
The leaf plates of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya cherry variety have an oval, elongated shape with a serrated edge, pointed at the tip, slightly concave along the central vein. The surface of the leaves is matte, the color is dark green. The leaf petioles are of medium length and thickness. Their stipules are weakly dissected and fall off early. Umbrella inflorescence, includes up to 6 flowers. The flowers are small and white.
On average, the weight of one cherry of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya variety is about 3.5 grams. The shape of the fruit is flat - rounded, or slightly flattened on the side. It is not difficult to separate the bone from the pulp in ripe berries. The external attractiveness of the berries is estimated at 4.5 points out of five possible. Sugars in berries contain up to 12%, dry matter - from 16% to 21%, ascorbic acid 28 mg per 100 g.

Cherry Dessert Volga is among the almost self-fertile. Its best pollinators are such varieties as Vladimirskaya, Dawn of the Volga region, Ukrainian... Fruiting of grafted trees begins from the 2nd, 3rd year, and seedlings obtained by rooting cuttings or root shoots begin to bear fruit no earlier than 3 years later. The yield of the variety of cherries Dessertnaya Volzhskaya is stable. From young trees up to 7 years old, from 4 to 11 kg of berries are removed, adult cherries produce up to 17 kg of fruits from one tree.

Cherry varieties Dessertnaya Volzhskaya perfectly reproduce by cuttings. It is only important to use green shoots for harvesting cuttings. By the way, the comparative analysis carried out on the basis of the research results revealed that the seedlings obtained by this method are distinguished by active growth and rapid development.
Reproduction of cherries is also possible by grafting such varieties as Vladimirskaya, Karmaleevskaya and Rastunya.
For growing cherries of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya variety, if possible, it is better to choose elevated areas, with loose, moisture-permeable soil, not blown by the winds.
An important condition for the correct development of the tree is pruning, the purpose of which is to form and thin out the crown. Experts note the good formation of the crown according to the so-called tiered system.
Cherry Dessert Volzhskaya: reviews of gardeners
- Victor Mikhailovich, Chelyabinsk region: “I can't help but share with the rest of the gardeners that the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya cherry variety is not as beautiful as its sweet name. For the entire time of cultivation, I noticed the following disadvantages: poor resistance to burns of the stem, as well as skeletal branches; short life cycle of the tree; average berry size; susceptibility to infection by fungal diseases, such as coccomycosis. Although, despite all this, the berries of the Dessertnaya Volzhskaya cherry are very pleasant to the taste, and the harvest is always rather big ”.
- Victoria Alekseevna, Moscow region: “But I really liked the variety of Dessertnaya Volzhskaya cherries. Firstly, Dessertnaya cherry is a winter-hardy culture, has a high resistance of flower buds even to cold winters. Secondly, the variety always bears fruit stably. And thirdly, which is not unimportant, the Volga Dessert cherry has a pronounced taste of berries and a universal use of fruits. "
