Laura grape
Content:
Laura grape is one of the few varieties that produces excellent and very tasty fruits. And at the same time it is completely unpretentious if we are talking about caring for a plant. In addition, the fruits in the form of abundant brushes have an ideal presentation. That also cannot but be an excellent advantage of this grape variety among all the others.
As the breeders themselves and experienced gardeners say, the variety combines the best characteristics of Western and Eastern grape varieties. The Laura grape is a table variety that, not so long ago, was one of the most productive and most delicious varieties. It is for this reason that it attracts such close attention from experienced gardeners. And also those gardeners who do not yet have experience and are just trying themselves in growing this berry variety. The grapes of this variety are included in the State Register under a different name - Flora. But among gardeners, he is still better known as the Laura grape.

The cultivation of the variety was carried out by crossing different varieties of grapes. And therefore, he retained all the best qualities precisely because of them.
Laura grape characteristics:
- ripening occurs very early. After about 4 months;
- fruits have a very high sugar content. And also a low acidity level. Due to this, the berries are incredibly sweet, with a light nutmeg aroma;
- the bunches are the same size. They look harmonious both on the grape tree itself and after they have been removed;
- the berries are very large and attractive. A slight waxy coating can be found on them.
Laura grape bushes are distinguished by the fact that they are very strong, of medium height. They tend to grow rapidly. The crop can be fully harvested in the third, and in some cases even in the second year after the shrub has been planted in open ground. The bushes have a female flowering type. Requires hand pollination. This is their certain feature that must be taken into account.
Leaves of a standard form for grape crops. Bordered with small notches, which give the leaves a rather decorative and attractive appearance.
Bushes are distinguished by the fact that a large number of fruitful shoots can form on them at the same time, which can give a very large load on the shrub. Therefore, pruning is usually done. Leave no more than fifty shoots. The strongest and most viable of all of them.
If we take into account the optimal load on the shrub, then it will give very large brushes. Their length, as a rule, reaches forty centimeters. The weight of the hands is up to one kilogram, and they can be held until the very first frost occurs. When the grapes are ripe, leaves should be torn off from them, from which a shadow falls on the bunches. So the fruits themselves will be saturated with sunlight, poured. And also to acquire a healthy and very attractive appearance.

But, even despite such an impressive number of advantages of the Laura grape variety, it still has some disadvantages. It is imperative to pay attention to before choosing this variety for growing on your personal plot. Among the shortcomings, we will highlight such as:
- if the weather conditions deteriorate in the region, this can lead to the fact that the taste characteristics of the grapes will also deteriorate;
- the skin of the berries is very thin. With its aroma, it attracts insects, mainly wasps. For this reason, the harvest is not always stable and plentiful;
- if the gardener did not follow the rules of agricultural technology and improperly formed the bush, then the size of the berries will decrease. And also in them the sugar level will gradually decrease. From what they will cease to be as sweet and aromatic as they usually should be in accordance with varietal characteristics;
- the Laura variety has absolutely no immunity to a variety of fungal diseases. Therefore, the plant needs regular preventive measures in order to preserve its features and traits;
- the bush can be simply overloaded with bunches and berries. And this significantly lengthens the ripening period. In this regard, the fruits themselves are depleted. In the same way as the vine, and the taste characteristics of the resulting fruits become much worse.
Features of reproduction of cultural grapes Laura

Usually, Laura grapes are comfortable enough to propagate using two main methods, which are usually used by gardeners. Namely: cuttings or seedlings. Seedlings can be obtained in a wide variety of ways. It all depends on the preferences of the gardener himself. And also on what skills he already owns. And how much experience he has in this activity. We will offer the following methods of growing seedlings for subsequent planting and propagation of Laura grapes:
- the vine shoot can be slightly bent next to the bush itself. And then lay it to a depth of no more than twenty centimeters. As soon as the young roots of the grapes hatch, the bush can be carefully cut off. And transplant to a permanent growing place;
- peat is placed in a specially prepared plastic bag. It is tied to the shoot of the vine, placing the very bases of the shoot there. After the root system has begun to form, the shoot must be carefully separated from the vine. And then transplant to a permanent place for the subsequent cultivation of the shrub.
There is one more way. When pruning Laura grapes, it is necessary to select the healthiest shoots. A container with peat must be prepared in advance. And also filled with a fertile substrate. Shoots are planted in it for about the entire winter period. During this time, the root system will have time to form. And in spring, a grape seedling can be planted in a permanent place.
Propagation of grapes by cuttings
Cutting is the second way. The bush may age. And this is manifested in the fact that the yield begins to decline noticeably. And also the number of fertile eyes located on the shoots decreases. Berries also lose their quality. They become small and tasteless. But even when the upper part of the plant can age very quickly, the root system can still provide the bush with a continuous supply of various minerals. Therefore, the vine can be renewed using the cuttings method.
To do this, you can use the following algorithm:
- when pruning Laura grapes, a few sturdy shoots should be selected. And place them in a dimly lit, but cool and comfortable enough place;
- then, after a while, the cuttings are transferred to a warmer room. Keep for several hours at room temperature;
- then the cuttings are dipped into settled warm water, in which they should stay no more than one hour;
- the ends of the cuttings should be trimmed at an angle. At a distance of one centimeter from the lowest eye;
- before the grafting procedure, the cutting should be dipped in a stimulating, nutrient solution. For this, Humate solution is most often used. It is versatile in horticulture.And suitable for different cultures. Then the cutting is inserted into a pre-prepared and split bole with a pointed end. One shank on each side of the stem;
- the place of the split near the stem is best wrapped with a cloth. Cotton shreds are perfect for this;
- the junction of the cutting and stem is smeared with garden var. And with the autumn grafting, it is best to sprinkle the stem with earth. The shank is also sprinkled. For this, sawdust and soil are used.
Thus, the propagation of grapes is carried out in accordance with the observance of all the rules. And then you can carry out reproduction when the gardener needs it. In addition, thanks to propagation by cuttings, it is also possible to renew a shrub that is already growing, but, unfortunately, is outdated, and has lost its vigor for fruiting and stable functioning.
Laura grapes: planting rules
For planting seedlings, holes should be prepared in advance. The distance between them should be at least one and a half meters. And from the wall, which will become a natural fence from winds and drafts, it is necessary to retreat about half a meter. There should be a distance of two meters between the rows. Fertilizers are placed in the holes dug up to 70 centimeters. And also watering is carried out for about 14 days, so that the soil has time to be completely saturated with all the necessary nutrients.
About a day before the seedlings are planted in open ground, they must be placed in water. Then their roots are slightly pruned. And only the largest and strongest roots should be left. Further, they already begin the process of planting a plant. The seedling is laid in the prepared soil at an angle. Gently spread the root system along the bottom. And then sprinkle it with soil just as neatly. The soil around the shoots should be well compacted. But at the same time, do it very carefully so as not to damage them. Then the soil is watered abundantly. This complies with the rules of agricultural technology. And they should be followed very carefully.
Variety care
In principle, it is not difficult to take care of the cultivated Laura grape. It is necessary to regularly water the shrubs, as well as prune them in a timely manner. But it should also be remembered that no pruning should be done in the first year after planting. But in the second year, you can start doing this for both health and sanitary purposes. And also in order to form a neat and attractive shrub.
In order for the bush to receive a regular portion of moisture, several holes should be dug around it for drainage. The distance between the pits is usually up to 50 centimeters. Watering must be regular. But if natural precipitation falls, then at this time it should be significantly reduced or stopped altogether. If the weather is hot, then the frequency of watering the bush should be increased. Because the plant is very loyal to moisture. And he usually feels good when given enough water.
To retain moisture, the soil should be mulched during the spring and autumn periods. In the summer, the mulch is usually removed. Because during this period there may be droughts. And the plant, as a rule, it is better to be moderately hydrated. You should not use rotted humus as mulch. Because it may contain pathogenic substances. And also bears who do not mind eating grapes. As for feeding the plant, the bushes should be provided with nitrogen and potassium mixtures. As well as phosphorus compounds, which will have an excellent effect on the condition and growth of the root system, which means that the plant will be safe.
Laura grapes: diseases and pests
Despite the fact that the cultivated grape of the Laura variety is relatively resistant to a variety of viruses and diseases, it is still worth monitoring the condition of the plant, as it can be affected by oidium.This disease can occur on large vineyards and are best treated with a variety of chemicals. If the powdery mildew has affected the backyard plantings, it will be enough to spray them with solutions based on manganese or sulfur.
Another danger is black rot. As a rule, it hides in the soil itself. Shrubs can be protected from it, and for this it is necessary to treat the soil and bushes before wintering with special fungicides. The grapes should be pruned periodically and also covered. In winter, in the regions, the temperature can drop below 15 degrees, and in this case the plant needs additional shelter. You should also prune the so-called middle type, when the grower examines the plant and removes any damaged or diseased branches. The stem is also coated with lime mortar so that no pests or bacteria can enter it. Mature bushes can be covered with straw or sawdust to protect them from freezing temperatures. In general, shrubs do not require any overstated attention to themselves: it is enough to inspect them, water and feed them on time, at the first signs of disease, treatment should be carried out immediately, and it is also recommended to prune shrubs, since it is thanks to her that you can preserve youth and vitality the power of the cultivated grape Laura.
