Strawberry harvest. Growing soil
Growing strawberries is a painstaking process and, at the same time, quite exciting, and a rich strawberry harvest is the dream of every gardener. Like any plant, strawberries need feeding, so in this article we will analyze several types of fertilizers that are most suitable for strawberries. But first, you should tell a little about the soil in which strawberries take root best.
The state of the planted crop, its future fertility and yield depends on the place of planting, the condition of the soil, the type of soil. Most of all, strawberries take root in loam, as well as in sandy loam soil, which should be taken into account by the gardener who is going to grow strawberry bushes.
The fertile layer must necessarily meet certain criteria, which will also affect the condition of the strawberry, its growth, and subsequent fruiting. Firstly, the soil must be neutral (the balance varies between 6-7, not exceeding these values), air permeability must be good, and this can be ensured by loosening the soil. It is also necessary to create conditions so that the soil can quickly warm up, but at the same time cool slowly, since strawberries (namely, its root system) are very thermophilic. A high content of organic matter and the ability to absorb moisture are also important conditions to consider when choosing a site for planting strawberries.
In order for strawberries to bear fruit, grow, give more yield, the soil must be fed. Nutrients affect both the upper part of the plant and its root system, which, of course, affects the condition of the plant, its vitality, resistance to dangerous diseases or insects. If you do not carry out measures for fertilizing the planted material, then you can also get a good harvest if the soil is already saturated with components, macro and microelements. But it must be remembered that these reserves can also become thinner, so sooner or later feeding should be organized.
The choice of fertilizer depends on the type of strawberry, the time of its flowering and fruiting. All these factors affect the choice of the type of fertilizer, the amount of feeding, as well as the choice of mixtures and solutions that the plant will assimilate. If the soil under the strawberries is depleted, it is not so difficult to restore it, if you adhere to the requirements and take into account the characteristics of your own plant grown on the site.
Fertilizers
Fertilizers today exist in several types at once. First, it's organic. It consists entirely of natural ingredients, can be created by the gardener himself, taking into account his preferences. Not all gardeners, in principle, use chemicals for processing, so organic matter impresses them the most. In addition, organic matter is really the main helper in strawberry cultivation. There are several subspecies of organic fertilizers - wood ash, manure, dung, compost. Wood ash is saturated with substances such as phosphorus and potassium, which are very good at repelling small and large pests. In addition, wood ash is a disinfectant - it kills bacteria and fungal diseases, feeds the plant.
Mullein, chicken manure, horse manure can be used as manure. In processed form, they contain many useful micro and macro elements that allow the plant to be protected, to enter the phase of rapid growth.Gardeners do not recommend using pure manure - it is better to process it by adding the same ash or straw. As for the amount of manure, it varies depending on the size of the strawberry plantations, from its variety.
Fresh organic matter is not the only type of fertilizer for feeding strawberries: various mineral additives are also used. They are sold in stores ready-made, and they can also be of several types, depending on which component is mostly contained in them: potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen compositions of mineral supplements. They can also be sold in liquid or mixed form, the choice again depends directly on the preferences of the gardener himself.
Follow all the rules, and a rich strawberry harvest is guaranteed!
