Aphids feed on plant juices. And at the same time it releases substances that have a detrimental effect on the leaves. Which leads to their deformation. And also withering away.
In addition, some species of this insect spread viral diseases that are dangerous to plants. Aphids are especially active between May and July. And differs in fertility. During the season, about 50 generations of these pests have time to be born.
It is not surprising that aphid infestation is becoming a real disaster. And threatens to destroy the crop.
Aphid control methods
The easiest way to get rid of aphids is considered to be mechanical. That is, washing off insects with water or collecting them by hand. Obviously, this approach is ineffective. Due to the large number of aphids and the high rate of their reproduction.
In this regard, many gardeners are trying to fight aphids with the help of assistants. For example, birds and aphid-eating insects. To attract them to the site, feeders are placed. And also grasses suitable for helper insects are sown.
Methods of chemical control of aphids are more effective. They imply the use of finished products. For example, "Strela", "Intovira", "Fitoverma", etc. Their disadvantage is toxicity and rather high cost. In addition, chemicals are not always available in the home. Or in the nearest stores.
Unlike store-bought products, vinegar is usually found in households and cottages. And also it is a budgetary means of combating harmful insects. Its use is not only safe for humans and plants. But it does not require special skills and efforts.
In addition to pest control, vinegar also has a fungicidal effect. Because it protects plants from viruses spread by fungi. Vinegar-based mixtures are used to process fruit and berry crops. As well as flowers and vegetable beds.
The frequency of spraying is usually 1 every 7 days. In difficult situations - once every 3-5 days. Often, one treatment is enough for 3 weeks.

When choosing vinegar as an aphid remedy, it must be borne in mind that its pure use is dangerous for both humans and plants.
Contact with the skin is fraught with damage to the skin, and the vapors of vinegar and even more so the liquid itself can cause a retinal burn. The plant also gets a chemical burn from contact with vinegar. Therefore, the preparation of vinegar-based solutions requires taking precautions. Vinegar essence, table and apple cider vinegar are used as an active ingredient for the preparation of the mixture.
The following proportions are recommended for aphid vinegar:
- 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar essence per 10 liters of water;
- 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 1 liter of water;
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar in 1 liter of water.
To enhance the effect of vinegar against aphids and increase its adhesion to the surface of the leaves, you can add liquid dishwashing detergent or grated laundry or tar soap to it. The film formed in this way will not allow pests to escape, and also prevent the solution from being washed off during rain. On average, 3 tablespoons of detergent or soap shavings are enough for 10 liters of vinegar solution. The optimal time for spraying is morning or evening, the main thing is to avoid the bright and burning midday sun.
Plants can be treated by watering with a fine-jet watering can, but it is much more efficient and more convenient to spray them with a spray bottle. It is necessary to carefully process each leaf - both top and bottom. Acetic solutions are a budgetary and at the same time effective means of protecting garden crops from aphids. It doesn't take much time or effort to prepare them. The results of the treatment of aphids with vinegar will not be long in coming, if all the recommendations were followed during the preparation and application of the solution. Fighting aphids with vinegar is a worthy substitute for toxic and expensive drugs.
