Cherry care: features of care in the summer
How to properly care for cherries during the summer season? In the summer season, before planting cherries, you need to familiarize yourself with the list of environmental features. It is important not to forget that in the summer the berries are ripening to the last stage and harvesting from the tree. Usually, you can harvest cherries by the middle of summer, but early ripening varieties bring it already by the first month of summer.
Do not forget that summer is full of various insects that harm the tree. It is also worth considering the fact that the sun is getting bigger, and therefore its direct rays, which can easily burn the leaves. Whitewashing is an excellent, and most importantly, not a costly remedy for diseases and some insects. The level of resistance to temperature extremes in whitewashed wood is much higher than that of ordinary wood. It is worth remembering that, especially in this season, it costs more to devote time to watering. The main thing is not to let the soil dry out. Summer residents with experience recommend covering the cherry trunk with mulch. This saves the tree from drying out and some diseases.
Nitrogen fertilizers are introduced into the ground only after the cherry has shed its ovaries. A month later, the tree begins to feed, for example, potassium and phosphorus. There are no strong differences in the care of an adult cherry and a seedling.
Cherry care: features of care in the autumn
For first-time cherry growers, it may not be clear how to care for them in the fall. After warmth, trees need to be prepared for cold weather. It is necessary to pay due attention to the area where the cherry grows. We need to start with fertilizers, we introduce them into the soil, and then it is better to dig the ground ten centimeters deep. It is necessary to dig deeper near the tree itself (already by twenty centimeters), but only if it is an adult. It is recommended to do this before the leaves change color to yellow.
It is worth remembering about the prevention of various parasites, which is mandatory. At this time, the tree is watered before winter, as this provides the cherry with moisture. Remove fallen leaves and feed the cherries with special fertilizers.
How much and how should you water the cherries?
One of the hardest things to do when caring for plants is watering, as everyone needs it differently. It is important to know how much and with what water you need to water so that a swamp or desert does not form. Perfect watering when the humidity reaches a depth of forty-five centimeters.
After the flowering process, the cherries are well-watered. This is followed by watering while pouring the fruit. And the final watering should be up to eighty cm deep. They arrange it before winter, preferably in the second month of autumn. The optimal amount of water for one cherry tree is from three to six buckets.
How to properly feed cherries?
In order for the cherries to bring a good harvest and not fall through the distribution of diseases, it is enough to be fed. Fertilizers that we need:
- Organic fertilizers.
They are used once every three years in the process of digging up the earth.
- Mineral fertilizers.
Apply once every three years in the fall season.
Cherry care: how to prune branches correctly?
Pruning branches helps the tree grow. After the buds have swollen, we perform the first pruning of the cherry branches. If it didn't work out exactly at this time, we wait further and don't touch it. But sanitary cutting can be done at different times.
First of all, in the spring, we cut off the frozen shoots, the cut must be processed. Pruning shoots only if they are from forty centimeters or grow straight up.
