Plum care from early spring to late autumn

Plum care and general rules
Consider agricultural practices that have proven themselves in the cultivation of plums and consider the proper care of plums in the open field.
It is very important to choose the right crop planting site. The most suitable are hills, southern slopes, which are well protected from the winds. Cannot be planted in swampy areas, peatlands, areas located in lowlands, as well as near rivers. Under unfavorable conditions, it is worth choosing hardy varieties.
When planting a garden from plums, it is necessary to select high-quality planting material. The main criterion when choosing seedlings is a strong root system. The best planting time is early spring. After rooting, the trunk of the seedling is cut to a height of 40 cm. the cut is covered with garden varnish or oil paint.
Each plum variety has its own resistance to adverse external conditions. However, due to diseases and pests, it can decrease. It is necessary to carry out measures to protect trees.
Plum care in early spring
Before bud break, trees are sprayed with HOM preparation. It will protect against germinating spores of fungi and get rid of aphid eggs, which often hibernate on branches (the aphid egg shells become thin during this period, and the copper preparation penetrates inside, as a result of a salt metabolism disturbance, the pest dies) with the drug it is necessary to spray branches, trunks and forks.
Budding phase
At the time of bud formation, they are treated with a systemic fungicide (Skor or Fundazol). Thanks to the treatment, the prevention of moniliosis and clasterosporium is carried out.
Plum care in May
In the second half of May, aphids actively reproduce. For pest control, you can use insecticides (Commander, Biotlin, Iskra). At the end of May, beginning of June, the trees are sprayed with a Bordeaux mixture. It is necessary to wet both the bottom and the top of the sheet. Such processing will protect the tree from a complex of diseases.
The beginning of flowering
When the tree begins to bloom, pheramon traps are set up to control the plum moth. In early June, plums are treated with Insegar to combat the pest. Spraying can be carried out at a time when the caterpillars have already emerged from the eggs (damage to the ovary, the appearance of a flowing gum).
Plum care in autumn
In the fall, when the tree has dropped its foliage, it is necessary to spray with Bordeaux liquid.
Pollination problem
Each variety has its own advantages and disadvantages. The weak point of the plum is its pollination. Heavy pollen is not carried by the wind, the buds of the peduncles often freeze, which leads to a decrease in the amount of pollen. Many varieties do not have this drawback (Blue Dar, Hungarian, Morning, Early Yellow), therefore, if there are unfavorable conditions on the ground, it is worth choosing just these.
