Egg shells for plants: the benefits of fertilization
Plain eggshells can be used as fertilizer. Its benefits are due to the calcium carbonate included in the composition (up to 95%). In addition, the shell contains potassium, silicon, phosphorus, magnesium and other trace elements. Such feeding is preferred by such plants as onions and carrots, cherries and currants, lettuce and even roses.
The shells from eggs by gardeners are used in crushed form or as an infusion. Moreover, it is better to grind it to the state of flour, then it will be easier for plants to assimilate nutrients.
Ways to use eggshells in the garden
There are several ways to use the shell in the garden:
-To stimulate the growth of the first descents, the seeds are sprinkled with egg shell flour from above. It will also help strengthen and heal the plants.
-You can prepare an infusion for root feeding if you grind the shell of 5 eggs to a powder state and pour boiling water over it. This mixture is left to infuse under the lid for up to 7 days, stirring daily. The resulting concentrate is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 3 and poured over pepper, eggplant, beets and other vegetables.
-Eggshells can also be used as drainage. For this, the material is pounded and added to containers prepared for seedlings.
Flower-loving gardeners use the shells by mixing them with mulch or covering them up during weeding. For example, for roses, crushed top dressing is added to the holes during planting, embedded in the soil or scattered around the flowers.
How to improve the soil with eggshells
With the help of eggshells, you can reduce the acidity of the soil and nourish the plants. For this purpose, about 2 glasses of crushed shells are introduced per 1 sq. m of soil. With strong acidification of the soil, much more material will be required - about 1 kg per 1 sq. m.
Coarsely ground shells are added to the soil when digging in the fall. This allows you to improve its looseness, as well as increase the access of oxygen. Before grinding the shell, it is calcined in the oven. Thus, calcium is more easily released into the soil.
Eggshell - protection against diseases and pests
If the seedlings are powdered with flour made from egg leftovers, this will significantly reduce the risk of black leg disease. And when such flour is introduced into the soil, the root system of garden crops can be protected from being eaten by moles.
Egg shells also help fight the bear. If it appears on the site, then the shell, mixed with sunflower oil, is deepened into the aisles. Having eaten such a treat, the bear will die.
If you sprinkle crushed shells under the plants, then it will be difficult for slugs to get to them, since rough surfaces do not suit them.
Even a large amount of eggshells does not harm the plants. This is a budget supplement that will not interfere with almost any plant. Crushed shells can be gradually poured into the hole prepared for seedlings. This will speed up the growth of plants and improve the quality of the crop.
