Thuja is an ideal bush that is great for decorating flower beds, personal plots, park areas and landscape designs. Often, thuja can be transferred to terraces, balconies, loggias and just in an apartment, since they are incredibly decorative and have their own growth characteristics. In this article, we will dwell in more detail on the variety Thuja Little Champion (small champion - if you translate the name from English).
Introduction
The western thuja Little Champion is a compact coniferous plant that has a very attractive rounded crown shape. The dimensions of the thuja Little Champion are such that even though the bush is compact, it can reach almost one and a half meters (in the most favorable conditions), but the diameter of the thuja is about one meter. The bush is distinguished by the fact that it grows rather slowly, and, in principle, this is a specific feature of many coniferous cypress plants. The crown of the thuja Little Champion is quite loose, it has straight branches. The crown can change its color - for example, during the growing season, the leaves have a juicy green color, but closer to frost, the crown changes its color, becomes bronze, closer to brown.

Western thuja Little Champion: variety description
The little champion is the thuja, which is a slow growing species. Annual growth is a maximum of nine to ten centimeters, and that plant needs the most comfortable conditions, otherwise it will refuse to grow, it will lose its decorative appearance. The needles are light green when the tree is still very young, but as it grows and matures, the crown becomes darker and more succulent, it can become covered with scales closer to winter, this is some feature of this plant variety. The cones on the crown are quite small, have a brown tint, the cones contain seeds, but they are rarely propagated by them: as a rule, this takes too much time, and gardeners prefer to purchase already grown seedlings in specialized nurseries.
Tui Little Champion are used for single landings, and are also very often found in group landings, as they get along well and combine with many types of other crops. You can plant thuja in containers or pots, exhibit them on terraces, but at the same time they need constant sunlight. Only in this case will the plant give the best results for its growth and development.
Tuya Little Champion: landing and leaving
The Little Champion spherical thuja is a plant that thrives best in humid climates. At the same time, it is excellent for sunny and slightly shaded areas. The most important thing is that the site is not completely hidden from the sun, or strong drafts or winds walk on it. If the situation is just like this, then there is a high chance that the plant will completely lose both its growth potential and decorative features for which it is so famous. The soil must be fertile, be sure to drain, so that all excess moisture immediately leaves the soil, as otherwise there is a high risk that the plants will simply get sick and die.
The variety is distinguished by its high level of immunity and resistance to stress. Also, the peculiarity is that the bush takes root very well in an arid climate or in a region where the weather conditions are quite changeable. Also, the bush as a whole can withstand severe frosts, this is also its advantage. In the first month after the bush has been planted in open ground, and if dry weather is observed, it is best to water it regularly, then there is a high chance that the bush will quickly adapt to new conditions and endure the current stressful situation.
It is also worth loosening the trunk circle, regularly removing weeds. It is best to mulch the trunk circle with peat and sawdust, or straw, then the moisture will evaporate much less, the chance that the bush is attacked by pests will also decrease to zero. The bush is trimmed by the gardener as needed. Sanitary pruning can be done to remove any diseased and dead branches. You can also shape the bush by pruning to give it an even more attractive and presentable appearance.
The height of the bush varies from one to one and a half meters, the shape of the bush dwarf, the crown is round, even more ovoid, it must be formed in order to achieve the most excellent result precisely in the external decorative properties of this plant. The shade of the needles, as we noted earlier, can change depending on the season, which also makes the plant attractive throughout the year and regardless of weather conditions.
To plant thuja of the Little Champion variety, you must choose a well-lit area. As a rule, it does not matter at all which crops have grown before in the selected area, the main thing is that the plant is in the sun or in light partial shade. Thus, you can enhance the attractive properties of the crown, since it will be constantly fed by the sun's rays, which is really good. The soil should be light. For this, ideally, peaty soils, dry or loamy sandy loams are selected, in which the root system takes root and adapts most successfully.
If, nevertheless, the gardener is forced to plant the thuja in heavy soil, then at least about fifteen centimeters of the drainage layer should be placed at the bottom of the hole. A hole is usually dug to fit the size of an earthen coma, in which the root system is located. The lump should not be shaken off, its integrity should not be violated, otherwise it will lead to negative phenomena.
The depth of the hole can vary from 60 to 80 centimeters, it all depends on whether an additional drainage layer will be laid, or the soil ideally suits the plant, and the hole can be made shallower. The soil mixture is prepared by the gardener himself. To do this, in equal proportions, it is necessary to thoroughly mix sand, peat and turf soil with each other. Deciduous land is also perfect, since it is also considered favorable for planting this type of ornamental plants.
In order for thuja Little Champion to take root and grow even better on the site, it is also recommended to add nitroammofosk to the soil, since it contains components that will stimulate the growth of the root system and, in general, protect the plant from attacks from the most dangerous bacteria and microorganisms ... The root collar should remain at ground level when planting. It should be remembered that loosening the soil is carried out very carefully, since the root system can spread close to the top layer of the soil, and it is very easy to damage it during such manipulations.
After planting has been completed, it is necessary to give the young bush regular moisture. About once a week, about one bucket of warm settled water is poured into the root zone. If the planting of the bush was carried out in dry times, then watering should be carried out even more often. In general, the gardener himself can focus on the general condition of the plant, on temperature conditions and on how quickly the topsoil dries out.Thuja is a bush that by itself evaporates a sufficient amount of moisture, therefore it has a very positive attitude towards constant watering, the introduction of moisture, and responds perfectly to regular watering with settled water, in which there is no sediment.
Top dressing is an important part of caring for any plant. You can do it in the spring, and at this time, gardeners just recommend doing this. To do this, you can take absolutely any complex fertilizers that are sold in specialized stores for the gardener. When the growing season comes, the soil needs to be loosened well, but regularly. Also, the root circle is mulched with about six centimeters of mulch - peat, compost, bark, sawdust, straw.
The globular thuja Little Champion can endure winter quite calmly. But at the same time, thuja can be sunburned, especially in spring. Therefore, periodically they need to be sheltered from the sun to avoid such damage. This is especially true for young bushes that have reached two years of age. This is the only condition that should be observed, and which must be paid attention to if we are talking about the care measures that are applied to plants.
