Flowers that attract bees
The number of bees has declined over the past few years, and if you want to help the bees increase their growth, then plant flowers that they like.
But if you are prone to allergies, or there are children on your site, then you need to keep this list in mind to avoid attracting large numbers of bees into your garden.
Bees love many types of flowers, but especially those that are rich in nectar and pollen, large, solitary, open, or tubular flowers inside which they can crawl freely.
It is believed that they are attracted by the purple color, but bees will fly to any suitable flower that can provide them with food.
Garden mallow pink (mallow, stockrose).
These flowers reach 2 m in height, their stems at the top are covered with bright large double flowers, similar to a wide bell. The color scheme is varied - white, purple, pink, lilac, yellow, purple, red or burgundy tones.
Mallow is unpretentious, loves neutral loose soil, moderate humidity and sun. Each year, this tall perennial grows stronger and produces even more flower stalks, which seem to call bees to your site. Mallow varieties
"Holyhock" covered with smaller flowers, two-tone and carved, tones of apricot, almost black and dark currant liqueur. The Halo hybrid mallow has a spot that gives the flower a shining effect.
Digitalis (digitalis).
Another tall and slender perennial, which is very much loved by bumblebees. Its flowers are like many thimbles. The tubular shape and bright range allows them to find a flower, crawl to nectar, at the same time collecting pollen, which is useful for feeding their offspring and for pollination of flowers.
It is unpretentious, it grows up to 120 cm. Digitalis of the Flame variety is shorter, the Dalmatia variety has a pattern in the form of spots. Foxglove roots are poisonous to dogs.
A flower that attracts bees Kosmeya (space, beauty, Mexican aster).
A charming and open flower that provides easy access to its nectar for all flying insects. Cosmos flowers are similar to chamomile, have delicate delicate petals up to 12 cm in diameter, red, white, pink, purple and golden shades.
Unpretentious, grows up to 1.5 m, self-seeding. Loves the sun, protection from drafts, moderate humidity and moderately fertile, slightly acidic soil. Kosmeya varieties "Lemonade" are characterized by delicate flowers of a creamy yellow tone with a white center.
Avens (geum).
Blooms non-stop from early summer to early autumn. Bright flowers of red, yellow, orange, pink shades are open for feeding and collecting nectar by bees and other pollinating insects. Unpretentious, growth depends on the variety - from 15 to 70 cm.
Loves bright sun, humidity, any garden soil, except acidic, watering and feeding is desirable. The gravilat variety "Totali Tangerine" has large openwork flowers of a rich warm orange tone.
Wild apple tree.
The crab apple tree is another variety of apple trees that blooms early and provides bees with an early source of nectar, in March-April, crab apples are covered with a mass of beautiful white flowers. Unpretentious, grows up to 10 m, loves the sun and space.
Wallflower (lacfiol, cherry jaundice).
Small, compact plants have a high nectar content and are ideal for growing in small gardens, blooming almost all year round.
The large flower has a color range from golden yellow towards the middle to orange-brown at the edges. Unpretentious, resistant to cold weather, loves dim sun, grows up to 1 m.Yellow violet is poisonous!
Single dahlias.
Traditional dahlias have too many petals, making it difficult to access nectar and pollen. Hybrid varieties of single dahlias such as the Mystic Illusion dahlia.
They have wide open flowers of a pleasant warm yellow tone, on which bees can easily collect food. This dahlia is unpretentious, loves the sun, grows up to 60 cm in length and 50 cm in width.
Hellebore (winter house, helleborus, christmas rose).
An important flower for providing bees with nectar in late winter and early spring, when they wake up and go out for food on a fairly warm winter day.
Unusual color shades, patterns, specks and hellebore lines are the perfect addition to an early garden! It grows up to 50 cm, is unpretentious, resistant to cold, loves humus from dead leaves. Recommended to be planted under apple trees.
Lavender.
The most favorite shrub among pollinating insects, especially the French lavender variety (broadleaf, stekhad). Lavender flowers come in many shades, from white to very deep purple, have a strong aroma, ooze abundant nectar and are full of continuous buzzing from the inside.
It grows up to 80 cm long and up to 1 m in diameter. Lavender is unpretentious, drought-resistant and makes a wonderful garden decoration.
Buddlea (autumn lilac, honey bush).
Variety "David the Black Knight" is a magnet for pollinating insects. This shrub grows up to 170 cm, and its inflorescences 30 cm in length have a rich purple-blue color and honey aroma.
Buddleya is unpretentious, loves warmth, sun and fertile, well-drained land.
