The most important aspects of growing cauliflower
Content:
Once, Mark Twain once said such an interesting phrase: "Cauliflower is the same cabbage, but only with a higher education." If you look at it from the other side, then he was right. If you decide to grow cauliflower in your garden or garden, then you must be ready for constant self-education. The thing is that even experienced gardeners do not always succeed in growing such a finicky cabbage. But the cauliflower in the garden requires proper attention, and if you manage to unravel all its secrets, it will give you a rich harvest.
How to plant seedlings?
Like any other horticultural crop, cauliflower begins with seedlings. It is best to grow seedlings yourself, not to buy them in stores. You are probably asking why? Simply because very often, when buying cauliflower seedlings from the store, you can purchase seedlings that are already affected by the keel. This means that for at least 7-10 years, you can forget about a good harvest of all plants of the cabbage family. Do you want this? Of course, growing seedlings yourself is very difficult. Maintaining the correct temperature will be the most important factor. Experienced gardeners recommend planting seeds in separate plastic cups from around March 5-10. The pallet must be covered with foil and removed to a warm place. And after a couple of days you will see emerging seedlings. As soon as you have shoots, the glasses should be taken to a cool place, where the temperature is 10-15 degrees and where there is maximum lighting 24 hours a day. This is required for 3 days. After that, the temperature at night can be raised by several degrees (about 20-22), and young plants can be supplemented 12-14 hours a day. In early April, your young plants should be transferred to a polycarbonate greenhouse and planted in a nursery. From above you need to cover with non-woven covering material along the arcs.
We transfer seedlings to open ground
After the threat of the return of cold weather has passed, the moment comes when you need to transfer the plants to a permanent place. The cauliflower beds in the garden need to be prepared in advance. It must be prepared in the fall, the bed must be deoxidized by adding dolomite or limestone flour. Put two handfuls of humus in the holes (size 50 to 50), add two tablespoons of ash, one tablespoon of organo-mineral fertilizer and mix with the soil. Then it should be spilled abundantly with a special solution to stimulate root formation. It can be Radifarm or Falvumin.
Cauliflower in the garden: care
Until June, the cauliflower garden should be kept covered with covering material. Water as needed. Make sure that the soil is not dry. Otherwise, the heads may not form at all. Root dressing should be done about once a week. Complex mineral fertilizers are best suited. When your head itself begins to grow, pay attention to the fact that direct sunlight does not fall on it. Then it will begin to disintegrate into separate inflorescences. You can harvest cauliflower in the garden when the inflorescences are tightly adjacent to each other. But in fact, the most delicious cauliflower is the one when the head begins to disintegrate. So you can also experiment and try to grow this formed cabbage on your site.
