Cauliflower: growing and care
Content:
Not long ago I decided to plant cauliflower on my site and remained satisfied. She did not give me much trouble, but there were a lot of pests. In this article, I would like to tell you in what ways I fought diseases and pests, as well as share agricultural technology and cauliflower cultivation. Cauliflower is a very healthy and dietary product that has taken root in Russia relatively recently and has gained frenzied popularity among our compatriots.
Cauliflower: Common
A staple of the diet of many Russians, cauliflower has become as popular as potatoes. Cabbage contains a lot of vitamins and minerals, potassium and phosphorus. Also, cauliflower is recommended to be eaten as a prophylaxis against cancer.
Cauliflower growing in the garden:
Many gardeners will say that it is very difficult to get a bountiful harvest of cauliflower, you should not believe them this is not so. The main problems are bitter taste and small cabbage forks. But these problems are very easy to solve: - the variety of cabbage must be chosen based on the climatic conditions, the strip in which you live; - study well the requirements for the soil, of one kind or another; - use only healthy seedlings for transplanting to the garden.
Soil preparation
In order for the harvest to be good, you need to adhere to the basic rules when choosing a soil. The site for planting must be chosen very illuminated, if the cabbage is hidden in the shade, then the ovary will develop poorly. Planting should start when the night temperature is at least 15 degrees, and the daytime is 18 degrees. Lower temperatures will have a detrimental effect on the growth and development of seedlings. It is best to choose a soil that is very nutritious and well fertilized with organic or mineral fertilizers, the acidity should be slightly below normal. The cabbage should be fed several times per season. It should be remembered that potassium cannot be used as fertilizer, it will have a bad effect on the growth and development of the head of cabbage.
Growing cauliflower
If you carefully follow all the rules of agricultural technology, the harvest will be very plentiful. It is best to plant cauliflower by seedling method. We sow cabbage as usual in spring, in March. Cabbage should be sent to the garden no earlier than May. When the air temperature becomes more stable. As soon as you decide on a plot for the garden, remember what kind of culture grew there earlier. I do not recommend planting cauliflower where tomatoes or other varieties of cabbage previously grew. Best of all, cabbage will grow on the garden bed where carrots used to grow or there was a cucumber garden. In the fall, organic fertilizers or compost should be applied to the garden bed, and the area should be well dug up. In the spring, we level the soil and slightly compact it. We plant the cauliflower in rows, lower each plant into the hole and sprinkle it with earth. We water the seedlings well, the water should be warm. After watering, sprinkle the holes with wood ash. Cabbage is a big lover of water, it should be watered several times a week. Be careful not to form stagnant water, this will lead to decay of the roots. About a month after planting, watering is gradually reduced and we make sure that the soil does not dry out.
Diseases and pests
To protect cabbage from viruses and pests, chemistry cannot be used categorically, so we use folk methods of struggle. The main enemies of cabbage, slugs and caterpillars. They can do just colossal damage to the crop.In order to get rid of them forever, it is best to use special drugs. But the treatment is best done before the ovary is formed.
