How to make the right choice of a seedling.
In order for the choice of seedlings to be correct, you should pay attention to those that are grown in a container. Before buying a plant, you need to inspect it very carefully. Height should be no more than 0.5 m, healthy branches with intense color. Also, do not forget about the root system. If you can easily see the sprouted roots in the container, not knocked down into one lump, then you can safely choose this type of plant for planting it in your summer cottage.
When and how to plant a plant.
The place to grow the plant should be shady and semi-shaded. Since the sun's rays, especially in the spring, can cause burns to the needles. The hemlock is characterized by unpretentious care, but special attention should be paid to the place where the plant will be grown, because the plant is characterized by poor tolerance of frequent transplants. It is necessary to protect the plant from drafts, and it is also not worth planting the plant next to the road, since the plant reacts poorly to polluted air. The plant needs fresh, moist, acidified, well-drained soil that will contain enough nutrients. In order to land, the end of April-mid-May or August-September is well suited.the size of the planting pit should be 2 times larger than the size of the plant root system, with a depth of at least 70 cm. Coarse sand (about 15 cm layer) should be poured at the bottom of the hole so that the plant has a good drainage system. the composition of which will include sod land, leafy earth and sand (2: 1: 2) or a mixture that will contain compost with garden soil (take equal proportions). Add a seedling to the hole along with an earthen clod and add the soil that remains. care must be taken not to fill up the root collar. After planting, the plant will need abundant watering (1 bucket of water for each plant) and mulch the soil with bark, gravel or chips. If you are going to plant several plants, then do not forget about maintaining a distance. For full growth and development, the distance between plants should be approximately 1.5-2 m.
Tsuga care
Like any other plant, Tsuge needs regular watering. Watering should be done once a week. For 1 square meter, you need about 10 liters of water. Once a month, the plant will need to shower, for this it will be necessary to spray the crown of the plant. the plant does not need frequent feeding. In autumn and spring it will be sufficient to add compost. But do not overdo it, the plant will not like it. In 10 liters of water, you will need to add 200 g of top dressing. In addition to compost, it is possible to add fertilizers, which will contain large amounts of phosphorus, potassium and other nutrients. Nitrogen fertilization is contraindicated. Due to the fact that this variety is characterized by slow growth, it is not necessary to prune the plant.
If you notice that the branches have begun to touch the ground, then they can be pruned to prevent decay. In order for the plant to feel well in the winter period, in October-November, the plant will need to carry out abundant watering. After that, before the winter frosts come, the plant needs shelter with the help of spruce branches or spunbond. For the plant, not only frosts are dangerous, but even snow that has fallen out. Therefore, from time to time it will need to be removed to prevent damage to the branches.
Application in landscape design
Unfortunately, today the plant is not used very often among landscape designers. But in vain! The plant is no worse than other evergreen crops to cope with the task of decorating your summer cottage, while it will not require special care and attention.
