Valuable tips for growing garlic

Growing garlic and planting difficulties
During my extensive long-term practice, I was able to determine the exact timing of planting the main garden crops, as well as the correct cultivation of garlic. I never use the lunar calendar, I always rely on my inner instinct. I always start planting onions at the end of April, just before May. I plant garlic in early October. And I dare to assure you that I always get an amazing harvest. But this year, I did not manage to plant the garlic on time. Long puzzled over what to do and eventually decided on a risky experiment.
Autumn or spring?
In February, I came across very interesting information in this magazine. The article was about planting garlic in the spring. At first, I doubted whether it was worth trying, since it was written that garlic planted in spring gives only one-clove onion. After a little thought, I decided to take a chance and in March I planted garlic at home, like seedlings. Garlic is not afraid of cold weather, so I boldly carried my plantings to the loggia. For containers for seedlings, I used disposable plastic cups, for each clove its own. I planted it very deeply and covered it well with earth. And I did it, very soon I noticed that leaves began to appear, by the beginning of May each clove already had 3 leaves. I watered once a week, watered garlic very abundantly.
Growing garlic and planting
Garlic tolerates cold normally, so it can be planted in open ground in early spring. I planted my seedlings for the May holidays. It is worth noting that garlic is very fond of illuminated areas. In such areas, he grows faster and gets sick less often. Also, a very tight planting is categorically not suitable for garlic seedlings, since there will not be enough space for the growth of the heads. Having planted all the garlic seedlings, I sprinkled the breast with ashes, this is a good prophylaxis against pests and additional feeding. Transplanting the garlic outdoors went well, without too much stress on the seedlings. I carefully cut the cups, tried not to damage the root system, and planted the garlic in small holes. We can say that I planted garlic, as well as in the fall. I pre-fertilized the garden with black soil and sprinkled with mineral fertilizers. But you need to remember that you should not fall asleep the leaves that the garlic seedlings gave, otherwise the growth of the plant will slow down very much. The garlic planted in spring was still slightly different from the autumn garlic. The regrown leaves of spring garlic were shorter and very juicy, without yellow dry tips.
Summarizing
A month after planting, the spring garlic caught up with the neighbor's winter garlic. But he started shooting arrows much later, which made me extremely happy. I watered the garlic only a few times during the entire growth period. But she carried out weeding quite often. I fed the garlic only once with mineral fertilizer. The arrows were eliminated as they appeared. The harvest pleasantly surprised me, all the heads were ripe and full-fledged, but not very large. On the whole, the experiment went well. So now I will plant the garlic in the spring. And to you, dear summer residents, I advise you to try this method.
