Valuable tips for choosing a covering material for beds and greenhouses
Content:
What is the covering material for?
Covering material allows you to maintain soil moisture, saves from frost and temperature changes and protects against weeds. But before buying a covering material, you must choose the right one. And this can be done only after clarifying the properties of each.
Polyethylene film
Film is the most common material used for greenhouses and greenhouses. There are several types of it:
-Elastic film that stretches like rubber, transmits light and perfectly tolerates frost. Suitable for regions with frequent winds.
-The insulating film, which retains heat in the best way in the greenhouse and the greenhouse, protects from the cold. In the event of a sharp drop in temperature, it will retain heat better and longer.
-Hydrophilic film that prevents water from condensing. Through such a film, water flows directly to the base.
-Film with a phosphor additive has a light pink or orange color. By converting ultraviolet light into infrared radiation, it protects plants from overheating and increases their yield.
-Reinforced film is suitable for greenhouse cover. They distribute sunlight evenly. There is also a small hole film. Plants covered by it can breathe.
-Bubble film, between the layers of which air is sealed. This increases the protection against cold by 20 times, but the transparency of this material is lower than that of conventional film.
Non-woven fabric
The most common nonwoven fabric is spunbond. There are several varieties of it with different densities:
17-30 g / m2 - the thinnest, used to cover greens and vegetables;
42-60 g / m2 - used for greenhouses or for sheltering crops for the winter;
60 g / sq.m - it will last for several seasons, it is used to shelter plants, it contains UV stabilizers.
There are the following types of nonwoven fabric:
The white material is used to shade the first shoots, create a suitable microclimate for greenery, protect against pests, and also as a shelter for greenhouses, greenhouses and garden beds.
Black material is spread on the ground to reduce moisture evaporation, enhance soil heating, protect from excess water, etc.
The two-layer material has sides of different colors. The black bottom works as a mulching material, while the white (foil or yellow) top helps reflect sunlight and illuminate the bottom landings. This allows you to speed up the ripening process of the crop.
Covering material agrotextile
Agrotechnical fabrics are suitable for gardeners who are not comfortable with nonwovens. They also vary in density and color. There are agrotechnicals of white, green, gray and black colors. Depending on this, the characteristics of the fabric are determined: white are suitable for greenhouses and the first plantings; black or colored - for mulching the soil, as protection against weeds and to accelerate warming up.
Having studied the properties of all materials, you can choose the most suitable one for your garden.
