Blueberries: general information about varieties

At the moment, all blueberry varieties can be divided into four main groups. Namely:

Low-growing varieties. This is a blueberry, which appeared by crossing narrow-leaved blueberry with northern blueberry and myrtle-leaved blueberry.

Southern tall varieties. These plants are not as strongly dependent on soil pH as the rest. In addition, they are distinguished by increased drought resistance, since in the process of breeding complex hybrids of some species of southern blueberry and northern tall blueberry were obtained.

Northern tall varieties. The main qualities are late fruiting and high frost resistance. These varieties were bred on the basis of species from North America (common blueberry + tall blueberry)

Semi-tall varieties. They appeared as a result of further crossing of tall and common blueberries. They are able to withstand frosts down to -40 degrees.

Blueberry Patriot

Mid-season variety (harvest period - July-August). A variety with rather large berries, the yield from one bush reaches about 7 kg. The bush is tall, spreading, about 1.5 m high. The variety has excellent organoleptic properties and good transportability. High resistance to various diseases. This blueberry is frost and drought resistant.

Chippewa

Refers to early ripe varieties. Productivity from one bush is relatively low - 2 - 2.5 kg. The size of the berries strongly depends on the agricultural technology carried out, but in general it varies from medium to large. Differs in good keeping quality of berries. The bush is medium-sized, up to 1 m in height. Gardeners love this variety for the high quality of very sweet berries.

Sunrise

Harvesting can begin in mid-July until the end of August. The berries are large, with a dense skin. The Sunrise bush is quite sprawling, of medium height. The berries are aromatic, sweet. Average frost resistance, may suffer from spring frosts.

Chanticleer

Ripening of berries falls, as a rule, at the end of June. Average yield (up to 4 kg). The keeping quality of the berries is at a high level, thanks to the rather dense skin. The bush is medium-sized, the branches are ascending. The taste of berries is sweet, with a pronounced sourness.

Northland

Ripening of berries is very extended in time, right up to winter. The yield often ranges from 5 to 8 kg. Berries are medium in size, easy to transport. Northland bushes are low, about 1m. Berries of a beautiful purple color with a bright sweet taste

Bluecrop

The variety produces medium-sized berries that ripen from mid-July to early August. A tall bush, about 2 m high. Bluecrop is highly resistant to drought and frost. The berries have a sweet taste with a slight astringency.

Duke

This is an early maturing variety with a fairly high yield: from 4 to 6 kg. The berries are agronomic, medium to high in size. In general, it has good transportability. Bushes are erect, 1.5 -1.8 m tall.

Darrow

Ripening begins in mid-August. Dense berries, more than 20 mm in diameter. High resistance to pathogenic viruses. The berry is aromatic, slightly sour. It treats frost well, but for your own peace of mind, it is better to cover the root trunk for the winter.

Northblue

Ripening - late July - early August. Low yield, from 1.5 to 3 kg per bush.The bushes are distinguished by their compactness (0.6 - 0.9m). The berries are sweet, aromatic, well transported.

Northcountry blueberry

Dense berries, 16-20mm in diameter, ripen from mid-July. Straight bush, low (70-80cm). High transportability. The variety perfectly tolerates frosts and droughts, and is also slightly susceptible to fungal and viral diseases. Berries of high quality, perfect for commercial and personal purposes.

Nelson

Depending on the quality of agricultural technology, the variety, as a rule, pleases gardeners with its harvest. Usually it is 4 - 6kg. Ripening occurs at the beginning - mid-August. The berries are 16-20mm in diameter. The Nelson bush is medium spreading, 1.3-1.6 m high. The quality of the berries is high.

Blueberry Blueberries

Ripening from mid-July to early August. Blueberries are perfect for those who want to sell blueberries. Productivity from 3.6 to 6 kg. The berries are quite large, with a diameter of 18-22mm. Possesses high stability, which is very good for transportation. The berries are sweet, aromatic. The variety is resistant to frost, but still mulching of the trunk circle is required for the winter.

Elizabeth

The variety is productive, one bush gives as much as 5-7 kg! Ripens in early August. The berries are 20-22mm in diameter, quite transportable, but not stored for a long time. The bush can reach a height of 1.8 m, the branches grow quite densely. Among experienced gardeners, Elizabeth is considered one of the most delicious blueberry varieties.

Blueberry Rankokas

The variety begins to sing in the second half of August. The berries are not too large, 13-15 mm in diameter, but the yield is decent - from 4 to 6 kg per bush. The variety has a fairly good transportability. The bush is of medium height, from 1.5 to 1.8 m. The branches are thickened enough. Possesses good disease and pest resistance. Not afraid of frost and drought. The berry does not have a pronounced aroma, but at the same time it tastes very sweet.
