Tomatoes are loved all over the world. They are used for making salads, soups, sauces. Tomato paste and tomato juice. And also salted and pickled. Summer residents across the country grow this crop in their gardens in greenhouses. And outdoors, experimenting with different varieties. In the southern regions, there are usually no problems. Because the summer is warm and long there. But in the middle zone, and even more so in Siberia and the Urals, not every variety has time to mature in a short capricious summer. And please the gardener with the harvest. Especially for cold regions, breeders create cold-resistant early maturing varieties. As, for example, an early maturing undersized tomato Mongolian dwarf.
Mongolian dwarf tomato: variety description and characteristics

The Mongolian dwarf tomato variety was bred by breeders in Novosibirsk. And it is especially common in Transbaikalia and Siberia. It is called a dwarf because it is the lowest variety of tomatoes. The maximum size of a bush is no more than 25 centimeters. But with such a small growth, the fruits of this variety are far from the smallest. From 120 to 200 g. And with good care you can collect up to 10 kilograms of bright red sweet and very juicy tomatoes from one bush. That is, the yield of the Mongolian dwarf tomato is very high.
Taking care of Mongolian dwarf tomatoes is not at all difficult. It tolerates temperature changes well. Does not require the mandatory removal of stepchildren. Because the stem branches out and bends against the soil. Grows up very short stepsons. And on them ovaries form and new tomatoes ripen. That is, the Mongolian dwarf tomato does not grow in height, but in breadth. At the same time, taking up quite a lot of space. The size of the bush can reach a meter in diameter. What determines the landing pattern.
The foliage is narrow and rather fluffy. Tomatoes of the Mongolian dwarf variety are tied almost immediately after transplanting to a permanent place. And the process does not stop until the autumn cold. Due to the fact that the bush is very branchy and has a lot of foliage, the tomatoes seem to "hide" inside. Are not exposed to adverse weather conditions. This means they do not crack or rot. Tomatoes of the Mongolian dwarf variety retain their presentation and great taste.
The people sometimes call the Mongolian dwarf tomato variety "tomatoes for lazy people." Because they do not need to be pinned, tied or hilled. But all other activities (watering, weeding and feeding) must be carried out without fail.
Disadvantages of the variety

Best of all, tomatoes of the Mongolian dwarf variety grow just where the summer is very short. And the temperature drops during the day and night are very noticeable. These are Siberia and the southeastern regions of Russia. But there is no surprise here. Because it was for this area that the variety was bred. Moreover, such statistics does not mean at all that the Mongolian dwarf tomato grows poorly in another area. Rather, the problem is that this vegetable can still be considered rare.
Tomato seeds Mongolian dwarf are extremely difficult to get. They are not sold in agricultural stores around the country. That is, they can only be purchased from individuals. And there is no guarantee that you will not face scammers. Chances are good that in reality it will be just a low variety of tomatoes. And not an outlandish and rare tomato Mongolian dwarf. The difficulty of buying seed, perhaps, can be called the only drawback of this variety.
The advantages of the tomato variety

- early harvest both in the greenhouse and on the street;
- there is no need to tie up bushes and remove stepsons;
- good harvest even in dry weather;
- the plant normally tolerates a lack of moisture;
- autumn is rarely (almost never) affected by late blight;
- fruits ripen before autumn frosts;
- resistant to adverse climatic conditions;
- due to its dwarfism, the bush does not suffer at all from strong winds.
The Mongolian dwarf tomato grows well in dry weather areas. And also where there is a long dry autumn. The humid climate of the Non-Black Earth Region with its heavy soil is not very welcome. But with proper care, it will grow there too. And in the south, where the ground is lighter, you can experiment. And grow a variety by planting tomato seeds Mongolian dwarf directly into the soil. In long summer conditions, this is quite possible.

Remember that the height of the Mongolian dwarf tomato bush in adult form is from 15 to 25 centimeters. This means that some of the fruits will somehow end up on the ground. Therefore, one of the main stages of preparation is soil mulching. So you will protect the fruit from dirt, decay, snails, slugs and other parasites. Therefore, immediately after or before replanting seedlings, cover the surface of the earth with one of the materials of your choice: cardboard or newspapers, straw or sawdust, an opaque dark film or dark geotextile. You can, of course, then put small boards or pieces of plywood under each brush, but believe me, preliminary mulching will greatly simplify the care process.
If you want to get the yield of the Mongolian dwarf tomato as early as possible, then do not delay and plant seedlings early, since the plant is initially cold-resistant. Well, besides, the bushes are very small, so it will not be difficult to cover them - install arcs or simple pegs around the perimeter and in case of recurrent frosts, put a film or geotextile on top.
If you believe the statistics of the reviews, then the Mongolian dwarf tomato feels much better in open ground than in a greenhouse. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the plant does not like excessive air humidity, and some gardeners forget to regularly ventilate the greenhouses. It is also important to take care of the acidity level of the soil - it should not be too high.
Do not forget that the bushes grow in width, so do not plant the plants too close, keep a distance in a row of at least half a meter and about 60 cm between rows. If you plant the seedlings too close, then you will have to remove some of the shoots, which will definitely lead to a decrease in yield and will require extra labor.
For seedlings, tomato seeds are sown Mongolian dwarf in the first or second decade of February, thus, at the beginning of May the plants are already blooming, and in June it will be possible to harvest the first crop. And if you transplant seedling bushes into a large-volume container at the beginning of March, you will be able to harvest at home in May.

Evgeniya, Bryansk
Previously, I only grew tomatoes in a greenhouse, but this year I took the risk of planting a few bushes of a new variety outside. The relatives of the Mongolian dwarf tomato seeds from Novosibirsk recommended planting them in open ground. The result exceeded all expectations - there are a lot of fruits, and the bushes are really small, but very spreading. Collected seeds, I will definitely plant next year.

The Mongolian dwarf ordered tomato seeds by mail, I really wanted to see, after reading reviews, what a curiosity this is. Germination was far from 100%, but then everything went well - the sprouted seeds grew into wide bushes and bore fruit all summer.Mongolian dwarf tomatoes are delicious, there were no diseases this summer. In a year I will plant my own seeds.
