Content:
Today we will continue to talk about strawberry varieties, medium ripening. The history of selection takes us to England. It was there that the strawberry variety was created - with the mysterious name Talisman. Let's reveal the secret of its creation.
Strawberry varieties: Talisman
The bushiness of the English Talisman strawberry is high, but it grows compactly. On a self-pollinating strawberry bush, multi-flowered peduncles are formed. In shape, the berry is round-conical, by weight it can grow on average up to 8-10 grams, and 25 grams from the first berry season. The Englishwoman is light red in color, the pulp density is average, the taste is excellent, like everything that the British appreciate. Its high yield and resistance even to light English frosts round out its excellent set of advantages.
Strawberry varieties: Harvest
Next on our list is the Strawberry Champion, Harvest variety. This record holder was created by domestic breeders. The berry is of medium ripening, has a large size and the highest yield. And this is not a play on words. The harvest is indeed the most productive in the entire history of selection. We turn to the plant characteristics: flowering buds during the flowering period are as abundant as possible, which directly positively affects the size of the crop. On powerful, upright bushes of this variety, there are large shiny leaves, covered with fluff from the back.
Harvested strawberries are impressively large in the first, second and third harvests ... It tastes great, looks attractive. The list of advantages is completed by winter hardiness and high resistance to gray rot and other fungal parasites. Well what can I say - the victory of the national selection.
Strawberry Fireworks
The next variety of the middle ripening period, again ours, domestic, with the sparkling name Fireworks. As a plant, Strawberry Fireworks is large, powerful in thickness, and at the same time does not take up much space in the garden. The combination of the incompatible, the idea of the creator. The strawberry flowers of the garden variety Fireworks are bisexual, which makes it self-pollinating. On green leaves of a dark color, slightly below, peduncles are not very large. The shape of a large Fireworks berry resembles a blunt cone. The surface is shiny, the color of the berries is wine red. The taste is excellent, the firm flesh is juicy and fleshy at the same time. Fireworks are good both for the table and for preservation, they are also grown for industrial purposes, as they are well transported. The strawberry crop is equally large in size at all harvests. The fireworks are high-yielding, frost-resistant, resistant to diseases, even to a tick. Of course, these characteristics make it versatile and preferred for growing.
Festivalnaya grade
Variety Festivalnaya, created from Abundant and Premier varieties. Perhaps the breeder of the Russian school of the Pavlovsk Experimental Station VNIIR in 1954 liked the different qualities in both varieties, and he decided to combine their best strawberry criteria. What came out of this? And the result is a medium-ripening strawberry with medium resistance to plant diseases and high yield rates. The bush itself turned out to be tall and compact. On thick peduncles, really large berries are formed, up to 35 grams in the first harvests. A distinctive feature of Festivalnaya is that the shape of the berries is slightly elongated and truncated, with a short neck. The berry tastes sweet and juicy, shiny in appearance, bright red in color. The berry pulp itself is pinkish, of medium density.Festivalnaya, from dessert varieties, and it would not have been like that, if not a small touch, the achenes of the berries are dark red in color and are on the surface of the berries, almost not pressed inward. Well what can I say, strawberry beauty.
Grade Present
The final variety in our article, garden strawberry variety - Present. Our foreigner comes from Ukraine. Created on the basis of the Institute of Horticulture, in the early 90s, in Kiev. Ukrainian breeders managed to bring out a rather large and vigorous bush, with high-yielding berries from 15-20 to 40-45 grams. The task of the breeders was to increase transportability and develop resistance to plant diseases and pests. The present is considered a dessert berry, it is perfectly used for blanks for industrial purposes. It also retains its qualities well when frozen.
Concluding the second part of our review of medium-ripening strawberry varieties, it is worth highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. The pulp of the varieties is juicy and tender, and therefore quickly deteriorate. When picking, it is necessary to take into account whether the strawberries will immediately go to the table, or will be transported. If you plan to transport berries for further sale or processing, it is better to transport the entire batch together. This way the berries will break less. The same recommendations are followed to preserve the shelf life of the berry, try to shift it once to minimize damage.
