A subspecies of such a fruit and berry crop as black currant, which will be discussed in detail in this article, is a representative of varieties with an average ripening period. Black currant Kanahama appeared in the Research Institute of Horticulture of Siberia named after V.I. M.A. Lisavenko, thanks to the works of breeders such as I.P. Kalinin, N.I. Nazaryuk, M.A. Pershina, by breeding varieties Llama and Bow to Borisova. The Kanahama currant variety is on the state varietal test since 2005.

The Kanahama black currant shrub has a medium height and an average level of spreading. Growing shoots are of medium size, they are straight, have a green color and a matte surface, without pubescence. Shoots are lignified, smooth and brown in color. The kidneys are endowed with medium size and rounded elongated shape. The kidney of the upper part is free, it is sharp and single, has a deviation and a brown color.

The leaves of the Kanahama currant bush are five-lobed. One leaf has a medium size and a matte surface of a pale green hue. It has a wrinkled structure, leathery, the surface of the leaf is straight. The apical part of the middle blade is pointed and elongated; there are also additional projections. The lateral lobes are of medium size, pointed, have notches rather deep and very small, they also have a direction towards the upper part of the leaf, with a right angle between the veins of the middle lateral lobes. The basal lobes are endowed with good development, their veins are extended.

The base of the Kanahama currant leaf has an open recess with an average depth. The teeth are very small in size, short in length and obtuse, bent, their "tip" is quite clearly expressed. The leaf petiole has an average length and thickness, green in color and with pubescence, along the edge of the leaf has a rather pale color, is located at an acute angle of 45 degrees.

The flowers of the Kanahama black currant variety, when opened, have an average size and goblet shape. Sepals are pale pink in color, open and bent. The stigma of the pistil is at the level of the anthers. The brushes are endowed with an average length, they are drooping and loose. The axis of such a brush is thick and winding, has a green color.

The berries of the Kanahama currant grow to a large size, each such berry can reach an average weight of 2.5-3.5 grams. They have a round shape, the surface is covered with a thin black skin. The taste of the Kanahama currant is rather delicate and sweet, with a small amount of sourness. When tasting, these fruits received an estimate of 4.5 points, out of five possible. In their chemical composition, pods contain: dry soluble substances 15.1 percent, total sugars 12.4 percent, titratable acids 2 percent, ascorbic acid 83 milligrams per 100 grams of product, pectins (wet weight) 1.8 percent.

The main distinguishing features of the Kanahama black currant variety: a good level of hardiness to frost and a dry period, early maturity, has a high immunity to powdery mildew, hazel grouse, gall aphid, and is rarely affected by a kidney mite. The yield level for this subspecies is on average 2 kilograms per shrub, or 6.7-10 tons per hectare.
