A subspecies appeared at the Novosibirsk zonal fruit and berry experimental station, thanks to the works of such breeders as A.A. Potapenko, A.I.Degtyarev, V.N. Sorokopudov, by crossing such subspecies of this culture as Bredthorp and Agrolesovskaya... The Aleander currant variety was included in the State Register in 2007 and was zoned for the East Siberian region.
This bush has a medium height and a semi-spreading shape. Young shoots are of medium length, they are curved and endowed with a gray-green tint.
The leaves of the Aleander currant variety are large and green in color. The surface of the leaf has a matte, wrinkled structure, it is leathery. The blades have very small notches and a pointed upper part, the angle between them is straight. The base has a bulge and a middle notch. The teeth are pointed. The petioles have a violet-green hue.
The berries of the black currant Aleander are quite large, each berry can reach a weight of 1.5 to 2.3 grams. Such berries have a round shape, black tint. They are shiny, do not have pubescence, collected in medium-sized fruit clusters. Endowed with sweet taste and rich aroma. The berries are covered with a thick skin. It is also worth noting that these berries have a fairly good transportability. In their chemical composition, the berries have: the sum of sugars 11.6 percent, titratable acids 2.6 percent, ascorbic acid 143 milligrams per 100 grams of product.
The black currant variety Aleander is endowed with a distinctive feature in a high level of frost resistance. Powdery mildew also has good immunity to the disease. The yield of Aleander currants averages 6.4 tons per hectare of area. Although with proper and timely care, the yield can be up to 10 tons per hectare.
