Plum Zhiguli was bred by E. P. Finaev and P. P. Ivanov on the basis of the Kuibyshev experimental gardening station, by hybridizing the varieties "Ternosliv Kuibyshevskaya" and "Renklod Bave". The plum variety Zhiguli has been listed in the state register since 1987, zoned in the Middle Volga region.
Plum Zhiguli: variety description and characteristics
Plum tree Zhiguli of strong vigor, grows quickly. Crohn in the form of an oval with roundness, medium dense. Fruiting occurs mostly on bouquet branches. The bark covering the trunk and main branches is smooth, gray-green in color. Shoots are thickened, vertical, red-brown, bare. Lentils are numerous, medium-sized, white in color. The leaves are large, broadly rounded, shortened, sharp at the tips, dark green in color, wrinkled, do not shine. The leaf plate is concave downward (boat-shaped), the apex of the leaf is very sharp, at the base the leaf is round, not pubescent. The edges of the leaves are double-toothed. The petiole is thickened, of medium size, covered with pigment. Flowers grow in two, three, in the form of roses, large, white.

Zhiguli plums are large, there is one-dimensionality, the average weight is thirty-one grams. Rounded fruits. The upper part of the plum is round, depressed on the sides. At the base, the fruit has a wide, medium-sized depression. The abdominal suture is small, barely visible. The fruit stem is of medium length and thickness; it can be easily separated from the twig; it is not firmly attached to the stone. The main coloration of the plum is green, the integumentary coloration is blue, solid. The dots under the skin are few in number, white in color, pronounced. The peel is of medium density, bare, it is sparsely covered with a waxy coating, it is difficult to remove the peel from the fruit. The inner content of the plum is yellow-green, tender, juicy, the color of the cavity is the same as the color of the pulp. Colorless juice. Sweet and sour taste. The bone can be easily separated from the pulp, it is medium in size, in the form of an egg, sharp at the top and bottom, and has pits. Tasting assessment of taste - four points. The attractiveness of appearance was also rated at four points. Plums contain dry matter (fifteen and a half percent), sugar (8.49%), acids (2.46%), ascorbic acid (4.12 mg per hundred grams). The fruits are universal in purpose. Jam and compotes are made from Zhiguli plums.

The plum variety Zhiguli blooms on May 10-19. Fruit ripeness is late. Removable ripeness of plums occurs on the twenty-seventh of August-third of September. The marketability of the fruits is high, and they are also well transported. Collected five to six days before maturity, plums are stored for fourteen days. The Zhiguli plum tree begins to bear fruit from the fifth or sixth year. The yield indicator is high. At six to eight years, one plum bears fifteen to twenty kg of fruit; in nine to twelve years, the yield is twenty five to forty kilograms, the yield of a healthy plant can be up to seventy kilos. The variety bears fruit every year. The fruit is firmly attached to the branches. When plums are overripe, they may fall off.
Plum Zhiguli is highly self-fertile. The best varieties for pollination: Skorospelka Krasnaya, Ternosliv Kuibyshevskaya, Mirnaya.
The Zhiguli plum tree is resistant to the winter season. In the winter season 1968-1969. the tree is frozen by 1.2 points; in the winter of 1978-1979 - by 3.3 points. Younger plums froze by about two points.This type of plum is resistant to the dry season. Moniliosis affects the variety by 0.1-02%. Gum therapy affects to a small extent. The plum moth affects fruits by 0.3-0.5%. Plum-pollinated aphids attack the plant to a moderate extent in some years.
Growing conditions
For the growth of the Zhiguli plum variety, heights, well-illuminated by the sun, light and medium-sized soils are required. Plum trees like it when they are watered, fed with organics and minerals, they thank for this with a generous high-quality yield. Young trees are formed using the circumcision procedure; when the plums are already fully bearing fruit, then a rejuvenating circumcision is performed.
