- The plum tree of the Renclode Soviet variety is small in stature, even in fifteen years it rarely reaches a height of more than three meters. The crown of a young tree is paniculate, it looks as if it was stuck into the ground with a handle, and it turned green.
- The leaves are rare, but the fruit is always illuminated by a lot of sunlight. The bark is smooth, gray-brown in color, there are cracks along it. The flowering of the plum Renklode Soviet occurs in May days, the flowers are white, the petals are rounded, gathered together.
- The fruits are large, dark purple in color, spherical in shape, slightly flattened on the side, their diameter is about four and a half cm, the plum is covered with a waxy coating of light color.
- The average weight of one plum variety Renclode Soviet is more than forty grams, the maximum is eighty grams. The inner content of the fruit is brown-yellow in color, dull, and oozes juice. When overripe, softness and looseness are observed. However, the taste does not deteriorate, they remain so sweet, slightly sour.
A brief excursion into history
The progenitor of the variety of varieties of renklods is the green green plum, another name is "Greek plum". Thanks to him, many varieties appeared, bred in Russia and Western Europe. Its descendant is the Soviet plum variety Renklode.
They took him out on the basis of the Rossoshansk experimental station. The variety was obtained by crossing the varieties "Record" (high-yielding plum) and "Renklod Ulyanishcheva" (famous for large fruits, their weight is fifty grams or more).
The novelty variety of the plum Renklode Soviet, which was named in honor of the successful work of Russian breeders, has become widespread in collective farm garden plots and in private gardens. In 1986, the variety was acclimatized in the Central Black Earth region, since that time this plum has been successfully grown in Voronezh, Kursk, Belgorod, Lipetsk, Rostov-on-Don and their regions.
Plum Renklode Soviet: features of the variety
- The domestic plum variety Renklode Soviet is distinguished by its resistance to frost, it can withstand very low temperatures (from minus twenty-five to minus thirty degrees). The record for winter resistance was found in 1975-1976, the variety withstood the harsh temperature of minus thirty-four degrees. The tree practically did not suffer, it lost only one and a half percent of flower buds.
- Another main advantage for which the Soviet plum variety Renklode is appreciated by summer residents is that the tree gives high yields, and regularly. Fruiting begins from the fourth to fifth year.
- The average yield of a teenage tree is ten kg of plums every year for the first four years (compare: a Record parent brings only four kg of plums in adolescence).
- Adult plum Renklode Soviet shows a high yield - from thirty-three to forty kg ("Record" - only eighteen to nineteen kg). There is also a record, individual plum trees in good years could produce fifty to sixty kg of fruit each.
Harvesting in the southern regions of the center of the Black Earth Region can be carried out from 1-15 August, and in the middle Russian latitudes - in the last days of August. The sugar content of plums is at nine percent, but the taste does not give off sugary, plums contain vitamin C (about eight mg per hundred grams), they are good to eat fresh. The stone is small, takes up only three percent of the weight of the fruit, and is easily separated from the pulp.
The compotes from the fruits of the plum variety Renclode Soviet cannot be cooked, since they are very softened, they can quickly turn into porridge. However, plums are suitable for making juices, marmalades, jam, they can be used to make marmalade, marshmallow, sauces, homemade wine and fragrant liqueurs.
The fruits are rich in pectin substances, mineral salts and organic acids, thanks to this they have a therapeutic and dietary effect, help to get rid of constipation.
Attention! Due to the laxative effect of plums, give small amounts of them to children.
Plum Renklode Soviet: planting and care
Optimal pick-up time and place.
The optimal time for planting a plum tree is the spring season, before bud break. Planting in the autumn period should not be done, even if the planting material has already been purchased, in this case the seedlings are buried in, and are planted in March-April days.
It is an important factor to choose a suitable site for homemade Renklode soviet plum, since the taste of future fruits depends on it. If the seedling will be located in a shaded place or will not be protected from the wind, then do not expect a plum with a sweet taste. A warm and bright place will serve to set sweet fruits.
It is optimal to plant the Soviet Renklode plum in a bright area, so that from the north and west sides it is covered by some kind of structure or fence. If there is no shelter from the winds, then you can make a greenhouse for a while.
When planting several trees, an interval of three meters is observed between them, for good growth of the root system and for free passage of sunlight to the fruits.
Sour soil for the Soviet plum variety Renklode is not suitable, the plum feels comfortable on wet and loose loamy soils. Moreover, groundwater should pass at a depth of two meters from the ground surface. The depth of the planting pit is 0.5 m. A stake is placed next to the seedling; from the north, the plum is tied to a stake. It is not necessary to apply fertilizer during planting - the roots are sprinkled with clean soil.
Variety Renclode Sovetsky is a home plum, but it is not cross-pollinated with other species (cherry plum, blackthorn, Chinese plum will not work). To pollinate it, you need a recliner or another variety of home plum trees.
Plum care Renklode Soviet

It is required to care as follows: water, feed, form a crown, pinch young shoots, thin out the fruits. Shelter for wintering is not required.
- Watering. The plum tree needs a lot of liquid, in comparison with other stone fruit plants, because its root system is located superficially - twenty to forty cm.With a lack of moisture, poor growth of the tree and a small number of fruits are observed. In drought, watering is carried out equally, from the time the buds bloom and until the ripening of the plums. Water is very important when shoots grow and ovaries are formed. If watering is not carried out at this time, then shedding of the ovaries may occur. Before watering the tree, it is required to loosen the soil so that a crust does not build up, which blocks moisture and air access to the root system.
- Fertilization. Plum Renklode Soviet responds well to the fact that it is fed.In the winter season, organic matter is suitable, in the spring and summer seasons, during the active growth of plums, nitrogen-containing mixtures are introduced into the soil. The optimal composition of the complex of fertilizers for the plum tree: nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and trace elements such as iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium, copper, manganese, sulfur, boron, zinc are added.
- Circumcision. Pruning homemade plum Renklode Soviet is made so that the tree can easily cope with withstanding the load created by the fruits. The plum is formed in the first year of development. Pruning is optimal in the spring season, after passing through repeated cold snaps, before the leaves bloom. Pruning is carried out with a sharp knife, the cuts are lubricated with garden pitch. There should be seven to ten main branches left, they are shortened at the seedling. If there are branches on the trunk that stick out at an acute angle, then they are removed. When fruiting, the tree is cut off minimally - the crown is thinned out, weak, broken, incomprehensibly growing branches are cut off. In the summer season, young shoots on the tree are pinched against the thickening of the crown.
- Thinning. Fruiting of the Soviet plum variety Renklode occurs as follows: one season is abundant, the other is zero. In order to avoid this and to preserve strength and nutrients for the next year, green fruits are thinned out before they are poured, so that the plums do not come into contact with each other. If the yield of the Renklode Sovetsky plum is abundant and the branches are hard, then supports are placed, their ends are wrapped in a rag so as not to harm the branches. Along the circumference of the tree trunk, three meters from it, all the weeds are removed along with the roots. This is also the case with young shoots that have made their way under the plum, otherwise it will draw out nutrients from the root system of an adult tree, and this will affect the number and taste of domestic plums of the Renklod Soviet variety.
In general, it is not difficult to take care of the Renklode Sovetsky plum, it will take little time, because resistance to winter and immunity to a large number of diseases will save you most of the trouble and difficulties.
