Sweet pepper is a crop that is quite common in the gardens of our summer residents. This vegetable is good in that its scope in cooking is very wide. There are a great many ways to use it. In this article, we'll take a look at the top five best varieties for different purposes.
Sweet pepper Hungarian cheese
This variety is great for stuffing. The shape of the pepper is round, slightly flattened, resembling a cheese head in shape. The color of Hungarian cheese is yellow, red and orange. In principle, almost any variety can be used for stuffing, but Hungarian cheese, one might say, was created for this. It has a stable base and looks great with a filling inside. This variety is very suitable for raw stuffed peppers (with cheese, fried mushrooms).
The fruits of this variety are small in size, which makes it convenient to use stuffed peppers with rice and meat. Such a small pepper can be easily mastered in a short time.
Hungarian cheese is a very early ripening variety. The growing season usually lasts 65 - 68 days. Plants are of medium size, reaching a height of 30-50 centimeters.
The bushes are quite compact in size, so this variety is well suited for growing in small areas (balcony, loggia), besides, the plants have a nice decorative look. Although the fruits are small in size, they have rather thick walls. This makes the peppers suitable for soups, stews, and salads. Also well used for making sauces and various twists for the winter. Fresh fruits have a fairly good keeping quality.
Cons of Hungarian cheese
They are practically absent. The only drawback can be called belonging to hybrids, which means that the seeds that you collect are unlikely to be able to repeat the qualities of the parent plant.
Sweet Pepper Earley Sense
This pepper is just perfect for making summer salads. It has a wonderful sweet taste, the walls of the pepper are quite thick. Earle Sense is a great ingredient in Greek salad. Although red pepper is traditionally added to this dish, this variety will still look beautiful with its bright yellow color.
The variety contains a huge amount of juice. Outwardly, the fruit is cuboid in shape, rather large in size. About 7.5 cm wide and 10 cm long. One fruit weighs about 150-200 grams. In terms of ripening, this variety belongs to the early maturing and among this group of varieties is the largest-fruited variety. No wonder the name is translated from English as "early sensation".
The first harvest of this variety can usually be taken 65 days after planting for seedlings. This fruit can be started to eat already in a state of technical ripening. At this stage, they already have a beautiful greenish color and sweet taste.
This hybrid has a high yield, as well as good immunity to diseases of fungal and bacterial origin. The plant usually reaches a height of about 45 - 55 centimeters. But when grown in an open area, the peppers are lower in height, and therefore it is better to make a support for them to tie up. Otherwise, the bushes fall on the soil due to the large number of ovaries.
Cons of Earle Sense
This hybrid has a long enough biological maturity. This variety is better suited for cultivation in the southern regions of the country, because in the central part, and even more so in the North-West regions, full maturity can not be expected, even if you do not pluck the fruits with the onset of autumn. However, it should be noted that incomplete maturity did not in any way affect the level of taste and yield. Sometimes the cultivar is prone to sunburn in hot summer weather.
Sweet Pepper Python
This variety is just perfect for drying sweet paprika. If you do not know that this is a sweet pepper, then you can easily define it in the category of hot peppers by its appearance. But there is no hint of sharpness even close. The shape of this variety is rather bizarre, almost never even, but has a funny curling look. In length, as a rule, one fruit reaches 25 centimeters. Weight is about 60 grams, the wall is not too thick, about three millimeters. Python has a bright aroma of spice and rich taste. This variety is perfectly susceptible to drying, since it has not too juicy pulp and thin walls.
Peppers can be dried using special dryers or in a simple way. Then you need to immerse them in a blender and enjoy the wonderful aromatic spice. This variety is not bad for eating fresh fruits.
Although the manufacturers of the planting material talk about the plant height of one and a half meters, this pepper does not grow more than forty centimeters in an open area. Productivity is at a high level, the bushes grow quite densely. In terms of ripening, Python is an early-maturing variety. After the seeds germinate and mature, it usually takes 100-110 days. By mid-July, the pepper usually reaches the desired condition.
Cons of Python
Not everyone likes this specific variety because of the spicy tones in the taste and the rather dry pulp inside. Inside, the peppers have a large number of seeds. But they are not tough and it is not at all necessary to remove them, this does not affect the taste in any way.
Sweet pepper Marconi purple
This variety is great for grilling. Marconi purple is very popular and successful in Italy. It can be of different types in color. The red variety is very sweet and juicy, yellow pepper has a milder and more restrained taste, and purple has a bright and pleasant aroma. In addition, the purple variety compares favorably with others for its unusual and elegant appearance.
The pepper also has an interesting shape that resembles purple icicles. The pepper is rather narrow, pointed. The texture of the pod is glossy, smooth. As a rule, the variety is fifteen centimeters long and only 1.5 - 2.5 centimeters wide. The walls of the fruit are not thick (about four to six millimeters), they have an elastic and crunchy texture. When the characteristic aroma of the pepper appears and the color becomes deep burgundy, this means that the pepper has reached its full maturity.
This variety requires very little attention, but it shows excellent results in terms of yield. The bushes have a standard shape, in height they reach about 60 - 90 centimeters. The fruits are able to ripen right up to the very frost. For this variety, a garter is not required, since the pepper weighs quite little, and the base of the bush is powerful lignified. The Marconi variety has a bright peppery aroma, delicate taste, so this pepper is perfect for making stews, fresh salad, marinade. The fruits are good for eating fresh, not even ripe yet.
According to the ripening period, this variety is referred to as early ripening, already 75 days after planting the seedlings in the ground, you can harvest. Also, thanks to the bright aroma and thin walls, it is fashionable to boldly dry Marconi.
Cons of Marconi purple
This variety is excellent for grilling, however, during heat treatment, alas, the beautiful purple color is lost. Remember that peppers are thin-walled and take a very short time to cook. It is easy to overexpose the pepper on the fire, thereby spoiling the dish.
Marconi is good for eating fresh fruits, but for these purposes other varieties will still win, since this variety has a dryish texture.
When Marconi is still in the form of seedlings, it has a rather weak appearance, and also grows rather slowly, unlike other types of sweet peppers, which were sown at the same time.
In addition, if you want to use this variety for stuffing, then use peppers that are not fully ripe, as the shape of the pepper becomes flattened over time.
Sweet pepper Palanichko miracle
This variety is great for making lecho. This variety is not so easy to find, it is not very popular among summer residents. But it is worth looking for it, it will not disappoint you for sure.
In our country and in the near abroad, Palanichko, the miracle was brought from Serbia. Vegetable growers who are engaged in the cultivation of this variety unanimously argue that the preparation of a delicious lecho will not do without a miracle. The lecho made on the basis of this pepper is very similar in taste to the popular Soviet products from Globus.
This variety has rather thick walls (about one centimeter in thickness), the texture is fleshy, contains a large amount of sugars, and this pepper is also very large in size. All these characteristics make pepper an ideal ingredient for lecho. But it is good not only as a spin for the winter, but also in a fresh version.
The variety is large-fruited, the pod is about 20 centimeters long, and in weight it can reach as much as four hundred grams! In shape, the fruits are cone-shaped, pointed. It has a beautiful rich red color. When grown in open areas, the plants grow to a height of about 40 - 70 centimeters. They are standard in shape, the number of leaves is average. The variety gives a lot of fruits, so it is necessary to tie up the plants. You can harvest the crop in early August (if the seeds were sown in March). The second fruiting will most likely begin in September. There are many ovaries in the second harvest, but the size of the peppers themselves is no longer so large.
Cons of Palanichko miracle
As for the surface of the fruit, occasionally slight damage and uneven texture can be seen. This does not in any way affect the taste of the pepper. The elongated shape makes this variety often attacked by slugs, as the tips of the fruit sometimes touch the soil.
Sometimes the fruits are sunburned. This variety is very demanding on the presence of heat and sunlight, therefore, in the cool season, it may not yield as bountiful a harvest as stated. Also, a small disadvantage of this variety, gardeners note an uneven harvest, peppers are of different sizes, from very large to small.
