Fertilizer secrets
Having determined the type of their soil, summer residents immediately proceed to the selection of appropriate fertilizers, the method and frequency of fertilizing plants in a given season.
How to fertilize plants correctly? Let's try to figure it out right now.
For example, very often it is necessary to resort to the so-called liming of the site, this is especially typical for overly acidic soils, where most of the crops grown cannot take root.
But few know about the nuances and, most importantly, the safety precautions of applying lime, but they do it at random. In the process of handling this material, it is imperative to wear gloves, preferably rubber, and also use protective glasses.
It is not allowed to carry out this process in windy weather, just like when treating the territory with other chemical preparations. In order to effectively lay lime deep into the cultivated soil, it is recommended to use a garden tool such as a pitchfork.
Remember that fine lime is best suited for liming; too coarse grinding may not have the expected effect on soil acidity. As for the season of application, it is often autumn, during a period without cloudy weather and precipitation - this is a must.
Materials using lime are allowed to be applied directly under the soil cultivation process in conjunction with other fertilizers of organic origin. The main nuance is that they should be distributed evenly over the entire area, otherwise unpleasant consequences may arise.
However, this rule does not apply everywhere, so, for example, it is forbidden to add lime to the soil together with manure, since when they interact, a reaction occurs, which causes the release of an excessive amount of nitrogen.
As you know, this can have an adverse effect and harm the crops grown, slowing down their growth and development in the future. Be careful in this matter.
Noticing that the selected soil is dark enough, we will be delighted to recognize humus - an extremely useful soil part for plants, which is a source of nutrients and a favorable environment for the development of favorable microorganisms. How is it formed?
The fact is that organic matter in the soil inevitably decomposes one way or another, which is called the special term “humification”. This is a kind of process of processing all kinds of residues, and it is carried out by bacteria and microorganisms that are in the soil at the moment and develop inside.
So, just this process of humification forms, oddly enough, an already new and final product - humus, which again accumulates useful substances in itself and becomes an excellent helper for every summer resident.
The humus content in a particular soil can be divided into three groups - those that are poor in humus (about 1% content), containing a moderate amount of humus (amount up to 2%), as well as medium-humus soils (from 2 to 3% humus content) ...
The most favorable is the soil that contains up to 5% humus, but this does not always happen, and if the soil on the site differs with similar indicators, you can congratulate yourself, you are very lucky.
We all know that grown plants need to be fed from time to time. But how many amateur gardeners know about dressings prepared with herbs? Usually it is some kind of solution, bird droppings, and so on, but what about herbs?
Yes, of course, there is such a thing, and this type of feeding is distinguished by its proven effectiveness.Herbal supplements in the form of infusions are valuable enough to enrich plants during development and growth, if properly prepared.
They can also be used as a protective agent against insect pests if you spray the aerial part of a particular crop from a spray bottle.
The classic recipe of the infusion includes fresh vegetation, which has been previously subjected to a grinding process - this is dandelion, nettle, chamomile, and quinoa.
Other weeds can be used that are of little value, but at the same time can be used with benefit. Without zealous tamping, it is necessary to pour a large amount of water into the container up to the very edges.
The next step is to just leave the plants alone in order for the fermentation process to start - this will not happen immediately, so be patient. Stir the soaked plants periodically for faster results.
Remember that the container should not be closed with a lid, otherwise, if there is not enough oxygen, the infusion may simply not work. Already after about 15 days, the infusion comes to the final stage - transparency appears, and the suspension settles to the very bottom, which is a sure sign of readiness.
For greater reliability, it is recommended to strain the infusion immediately before use, and also dilute with water in the ratio of 1 part of the infusion to 10 parts of water. Thus, you will achieve the desired concentration for feeding, so as not to inadvertently harm the crops.
So, now you know a few more tricks and secrets related to fertilizing your plants. Of course, there are still too many of them to list and fit here, however, even so the information that we have sorted out with you can become a key point specifically for you and your garden.
Remember to fertilize the plants at the rate - do not overfeed the plants, but at the same time, do not allow them to deplete. Good luck!
