Sanchezia description
Sanchezia (Sanchezia) is a shrub that has a spectacular appearance. In frequent cases, it is cultivated in a greenhouse, but a shrub can also grow in indoor conditions, if you take good care of it. When grown indoors, sanchetia can stretch up to one and a half meters. The leaves of the plant are very decorative, original and spectacular. The leaf is oblong, deep green in color, streaks of creamy golden or yellow color can be traced on it. Leaves can be about thirty cm long.
The inflorescence, towering above the leaves, is located in a vertical plane, has flowers. a tubular inflorescence grows up to five cm in length, its staining is purple, yellow or orange. Pollination of flowers of a wild plant, found in the subtropics and tropics of the South American territory, occurs with the help of hummingbird birds. After the flower withers, a fruit grows in its place - a box with two nests. After cracking the ripe fruit, the grains fly in different directions. In indoor conditions, only one variety of this plant is grown - the noble sanchetia.
This variety is more compact in comparison with wild species, reaching up to two meters in height. This shrub grows quickly enough. From a small seedling, after two years, you can grow a fairly large sanchezia.
Sanchezia in home growing and care
Illumination level.
Bright illumination is required, and it must be diffused without fail. It is unacceptable for the direct sun to hit directly on the leaves. It is forbidden to place the plant on the window in spring and summer.
Temperature conditions.
The bush is thermophilic. The content of this plant is desirable under temperature conditions within fifteen to twenty-four degrees. In winter, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature in the room is kept within twelve degrees, not lower.
Watering.
Watering is plentiful in spring and summer and moderate in winter. Usually the bushes are watered twice a week. It is unacceptable for the complete drying out of the soil coma.
Air humidity level.
Sanchezia requires high air humidity. To ensure it, a small amount of pebbles or expanded clay is poured into the pallet, and water is poured in, and the plant must be sprayed every day.
Top dressing.
Top dressing is applied at the time of transplanting. For this purpose, one full tablespoon of fertilizer in granules is poured into the soil mixture.
Transplanting.
The transplant is carried out once a year in the first days of spring. Heather soil and peat are used for this procedure. Another transplant is carried out after the acquisition of a sanchezia (provided that it is an adult).
Reproduction.
You can spread the culture using a stem cuttings in the summer season. An elongated stalk is cut (no more than fifteen cm), then it takes root in moist warm soil. For a plant to successfully root, a sufficiently high temperature condition is required. Usually, after four weeks, the formation of roots occurs, at this moment the cutting is transplanted into a small pot.
Signs of sanchezia.
The plant can shed foliage during sudden changes in temperature conditions.
After the winter season, the leaves cease to be decorative, therefore, in the last winter days or the first spring, the bush is cut off. Before building new leaves, the flower is rearranged where it will not be visible, however, it is required to provide all conditions for optimal development and growth.
Diseases and harmful insects
A mealybug can visit the sanchetia, the surface of the leaves will be covered with a deposit in the form of cotton wool. To get rid of pests, you need to wash the foliage with a sponge moistened with soapy water. And then the bush is sprayed with the drug "Actellik", after a certain period of time the procedure is repeated.
