Unfortunately, not all gardeners and gardeners have the opportunity to boast of their own land plot, and many people want to grow their own products.
And because of this, the popularity of growing various types of greens, berries, vegetables right on the balcony or windowsill... And this is a new direction in traditional gardening, but those who are not afraid of such an experiment are already harvesting a good harvest.
And not even anyone who has a garden-garden in the usual sense of the word, they have the opportunity to grow their favorite plants all year round. The list of such crops is quite impressive: cilantro, tomatoes, strawberries, dill, ginger, and so on.
Garden on the balcony: conditions for creation
It is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. In order for your balcony garden to function, it is necessary to provide the selected crops with suitable conditions for further growth and fruiting.
Namely: the temperature and composition of the earth, the issue of light, recharge, regular watering, air exchange, temperature and humidity of the selected room. In order to adhere to these parameters, you need to prepare your balcony in advance to create a garden:
- It is imperative to patch up all cracks and gaps in the walls, corners, so that the risk of a draft is minimal;
- Check and, if necessary, replace the glazing beads on the windows, treat all the hassles with a suitable putty, if you find a leak;
- Check the strength of the floor, whether it can withstand the planned load.
Ideal if you have sealed with insulation and have already glazed your balcony.
How to plant a garden on the balcony with your own hands?
In order to keep your crops comfortable in tight spaces, consider large containers and pots. For example: large round flower pots, rectangular seedling boxes, barrels.
There is no need to save on the volume of containers, because of the small space, the cults can start to hurt, bear fruit worse and reduce the quality of the crop. There are special requirements for the kidney, namely:
- She must be fertile;
- It should be free of pests;
- It must be moisture permeable and breathable. It is best to purchase it in specialized stores.
For example, an adult cucumber plant will need a five-liter container, while tomatoes and eggplants will need all ten liters. A two to three liter pot is enough for mini tomatoes.
And for greenery suitable: plastic cups, mayonnaise buckets and other small vessels.

Just the easiest crop to grow for beginners is salad. It is best to read in the middle of spring, provided that your balcony is in the south, and at the very beginning of May, if in the north.
One average container size will require ten to fifteen seeds, you need to plant at intervals of three centimeters.
Next, you need to prepare the seeds themselves, namely:
- Prepare a mixture of water and potassium permanganate;
- Count the required number of seeds;
- Wrap in a piece of gauze or cloth;
- Put a bag of seeds in the solution, this is done for disinfection.
After these manipulations, you can plant seeds in the ground. We make small indentations, carefully put a couple of seeds, cover them with soil and water them with pre-settled water, cover them with a film before the shoots appear.You also need to remember about daily watering and spraying the leaves.
Growing tomatoes for the garden on the balcony
Before that, you need to have seeds in stock, or seedlings of the variety you need. It is easier to grow seedlings, for this you need:
- In moistened, disinfected soil, you need to make grooves one centimeter deep at a distance of three to four centimeters;
- Plant seeds at a distance of one or two centimeters and bury them with earth;
- Cover containers with polyethylene and maintain a temperature of at least twenty-five degrees;
- In the next three to four days, you need to check the humidity, and if dry, sprinkle with water.
- As the first shoots appear, you need to move them to the warmest and brightest place, if possible, illuminate with fluorescent lamps;
- After a week, the plastic cover can be removed.
Strawberry garden on the balcony
Everyone's favorite strawberries will take root on your balcony with great joy, under the condition of a constant above-zero temperature of eighteen degrees.
For apartment conditions, remontant varieties are most suitable. You can start with seedlings bought or borrowed from friends, or even grow yourself from seeds.
The future soil can be taken universal, and the capacity is not less than three liters. Planting strawberry seeds is quite simple:
- You need to compact your soil with a wooden plank;
- Make not very deep grooves in it;
- Using tweezers, place the berry seeds in the ground two centimeters apart.
If you have seedlings, then everything is even easier:
- It is necessary to organize a solution of a plant growth stimulator and water;
- Cut off the longest roots and move the plants for three to four hours into the prepared solution;
- Next, plant each of your seedlings, only half deepening its stem;
- And water the seedlings with a solution.
About a couple of weeks after planting a strawberry garden on the balcony, or primary shoots, you will need to feed the plants with complex mineral fertilizer. Irrigation with iron solution will also not hurt at all - this will increase productivity.
