Amazing rowan tree! Top Growing Tips
Rowan is a short tree, belongs to the Pink family. It has medium-sized fruits that ripen in September - November, depending on the climatic zone. It is grown throughout the territory of Russia. Among fruit crops it takes the first place. The cultivation of common mountain ash is widespread. The advantage of this culture is its high frost resistance (up to minus 50), this happens due to late flowering and ripening of fruits.
If you want to plant this bush on your site, you should adhere to several rules.
Rowan is a fairly light-loving plant, but it can withstand a slight darkening. However, if the planting site is well lit, it is worth waiting for a more powerful crown and a richer harvest.
The bush loves water, like many fruit trees, severe drought can lead to the loss of fruit, however, severe waterlogging slows down growth, or even can stop it altogether.
Rowan is not particularly selective for soil composition, but black soil, medium loam and forest soils will clearly benefit. Planting of bushes is carried out in colder areas - in the fall, and in the south - in the spring.
In order to preserve the variety, it is necessary to propagate the mountain ash - vegetatively. Cutting does not give results. To obtain cuttings, it is important to choose one to two year old shoots on the roots of an adult tree.
Bending is carried out in the fall or spring, before the buds swell. The number of roots will increase gradually, usually the cuttings are separated in the spring for the 3rd year, but it is worth replanting only in the fall for better development of the root system.
Obtaining a high yield guarantees the planting of 3-6 varieties of mountain ash. Fertilizers for the bush are selected depending on the composition of the soil, but there is a universal composition that will undoubtedly please your plant: manure and phosphorus. The proportions are calculated depending on the soil (non-chernozem - 3.5 kg of manure, 8.5 g each of a phosphorus-nitrogen mixture and potassium, chernozem - 2.5 kg of manure and 5.7 g of potassium and phosphorus). Feed young plants with mineral fertilizers.
Be sure to prune the bush - first of all, young plants need crown formation, take into account the varieties and appearance of mountain ash. Pay attention to the thickening of the branches, do not allow this fact, especially during the fruiting period. Pruning should not be carried out in the summer - this causes secondary growth of shoots.
The rowan can be filmed from the beginning of September, however, in colder areas, ripening occurs closer to October. The fruits tolerate frost well. You can collect them in two ways: on a branch with stalks with leaves and without leaves. Leaves are needed in case of harvesting rowan for a long storage period. Store at a temperature of 1 degree, the preferred humidity is 80-90%.
