Rosa Piano is characterized by the fact that it is resistant to fungal diseases and pests of this family and tolerates frost well (up to -23 degrees). Leaves and flowers are not injured by the bright sun or wind. In cloudy weather, the flowers of the rose do not bloom, she does not like rain. The Piano rose is a compact bush, the height of which reaches 100-130 cm, and the width is 60-100 cm. The foliage is dark green, large, with a glossy sheen. The stems of the Piano rose are long and even, reaching 2 cm in width. The rose blooms 2 times for 3-5 weeks per season, having a break of 1.5-2 months. It begins to bloom in June. Rose Piano forms single flowers and inflorescences, in each of which there are 3-8 copies. There are more than a hundred petals in one flower. The flowers are peony-shaped, with a diameter of 7-12 centimeters (depending on the size of the plant). The rose blooms until frost. At first, the buds look like large, dense balls, and then, when opened, they acquire a cupped shape, densely filled with petals with a velvety structure.
The petals of the Piano rose bud do not fade in the sun, the inner petals are wavy and thin, and the outer ones are large and thick. In a cut, a bouquet of Piano roses can stand for a week. The flowers have a delicate aroma of ripe raspberries. Rosa Piano has taken root well in the Russian climate. The air temperature range from +18 to +22 degrees is considered ideal for her, and in winter it can withstand freezing up to -20 degrees without shelter.
Rose Piano has several types, each of which is good in its own way:
- Rose Pink Piano. Shrub rose with bright pink, spherical large flowers.
- Rose Wedding Piano... A beautiful rose with pale white buds with a beige tint.
- Rose Piano Freeland... It has buds of a deep scarlet shade with a burgundy border.
- Rose Charming Piano. The buds have a characteristic pale pink color with a green overflow.
- Rose Bridal Piano. A very delicate pink rose that looks great against the background of dark foliage.
- Rose Red Piano. The main difference between this rose is its deep burgundy color, which makes the buds look luxurious and velvety. This type of rose is very fond of gardeners.
- Rose Happy Piano... Most of all varieties are similar to a peony. The color of the buds is the middle between pale pink and bright pink.
Pests and disease prevention
Rosa Piano is not susceptible to disease and pest infestation. But sometimes insects attack, and then you need to be prepared for this unpleasant fact, and quickly take measures to combat insects. At the beginning of aphid infestation, a soap solution will be effective (200 g of shavings of laundry or tar soap per 10 liters of water). If the infection is large, then insecticides like Allatar or Actellika... If you notice damage and holes on the leaves, then the rose has been attacked by beetles, caterpillars or sawfly larvae. You need to fight them with any systemic insecticide, for example Inta-vir, Commander or Iskra. In very dry and hot weather, you may notice a white, cobweb-like plaque on the leaves - this is the spider mite.Any insecticide can also destroy it.
For the prevention of diseases, epin (in spring), root stimulants, as well as treatment with copper sulfate or Fundazol (in cold or rainy weather) are suitable. For fungal infections, the rose should be treated with a fungicide solution. Mechanical cleaning of damaged leaves and flowers will also be helpful so that diseases and infections do not spread to other flowers.
Rosa Piano: planting and care rules
Rosa Piano (piano): video about the variety
Shrub rose Piano (piano), like all other varieties of roses, requires due attention and care to the conditions of detention. Consider what you need to take into account to make this plant delight you with its superior appearance.
First of all, you need to choose the right place for planting the plant and prepare the soil. For this variety, a sunny place with light partial shade is preferable. The sun should hit the rose for at least 3-4 hours a day. It is best to avoid areas with drafts and strong winds to keep the flowers from falling off, although moderate ventilation is considered essential for growing a rose. Remember that the morning sun has the best effect on the growth and development of the rose. Therefore, the best place for this plant would be the east side.
For the Piano rose, it is necessary to prepare loamy soil or black soil enriched with organic matter, horse manure is great. At the beginning of planting, the roots of the plant should be soaked in a root growth stimulator for up to 4 hours. After planting, drainage can serve as protection of the roots from groundwater, in the form of expanded clay, river sand or crushed foam, which is poured onto the bottom of the hole and sprinkled with sand. You need to plant a rose in wide holes from 100 cm wide and 50-60 cm deep. Water abundantly after planting.
Top dressing must be done for the Piano rose three times per season. Top dressing should be done on wet soil. From May to early June, nitrogen fertilizers are applied, from June to August, phosphorus-calcium fertilizers are applied, and in September, potassium sulfate (1 spoon per 8 liters of water). It is worth knowing that you cannot overdo it with fertilizers, otherwise an excess of fertilizers will lead to dropping of the buds and yellowing of the leaves. Rose Piano requires regular watering with settled water (remember that the frequency of watering depends on the soil), but do not allow excess moisture, it is dangerous for the rose. Watering is recommended to be combined with loosening the soil and mulching the root zone of the plant. An adult bush needs up to 12 liters of water for irrigation, and a young one will need 5-6 liters. After each watering, be sure to loosen the soil so that air can flow to the root system.
Correct pruning is important for the Piano rose. Which should be done every spring. Then the branches need to be shortened, old and dead shoots removed. Next, you need to give the bush the shape of a ball and maintain it in the summer, cutting off the protruding branches and removing the faded flowers.
Rosa Piano is quite frost-resistant, but it is worth preparing for severe frosts in advance. Be sure to insulate the roots before freezing. For this, old, fallen leaves, peat, sawdust or dry needles, which are poured half a meter high, are suitable. Also good to use for covering Styrofoam hoods. But in no case use a film, under it the bush will begin to rot and may rot by spring.
The Role of the Piano Rose in Landscape Design

Rose Piano is often used in landscape design. The lush bush of this rose helps to give the site English style, it looks great in combination with other shrubs and flowers. This bush looks great both in one copy and in rose gardens and flower arrangements. You can get original thickets by planting Piano rose bushes in the shape of a triangle at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other. It is better to use a rose of similar shades for such a planting. Due to the fact that rosebuds are similar to peonies, they can be combined in one composition.Sculptural forms are well created from this bush, although for this you need to have the skills to properly prune the bush. Also, the Piano rose is used to decorate open verandas, entrance doors, planting them in flowerpots or tubs.
In general, the Piano rose will not leave anyone indifferent, it can satisfy any grower, thanks to its variety of shades, long flowering, delicate aroma, fur foliage and shape. They are great both in a group and singly. With long stems, it looks great in vases both at home and in the office.
Shrub rose Piano: reproduction
Since all varieties are obtained by selection, reproduction occurs mainly by rooting of the cuttings in order to preserve the maternal qualities. This is done in the month of June. You need to choose the longest last year's shoot (it differs in thickness and dark color), and is fixed with a wooden slingshot or thick wire, and then covered with soil. All this is done at a distance of 40-50 cm from the main bush. The soil should always be moderately moist. You can cut off the plant from the main bush not earlier than next spring. You can also propagate the Piano rose in the following ways: by grafting on a rosehip or dividing a bush. The division of the bush should be done at the end of April, when the snow has melted. This is done like this: a part of the bush is cut off, the wounds of the cut bush are treated with garden varnish and the roots are slightly shortened. The root is dipped in a mash made of clay and manure, and planted in a prepared hole.

On the forums and on the Internet, there are numerous reviews about this rose variety. Basically, they love the Piano rose for its bud shape, which resembles the old, English style, for its unpretentiousness in care and for its delicate, slightly sweet aroma. Here are some of the reviews:
- In my garden, the Piano rose has been growing for 5 years. It blooms without interruption, is resistant to frost, and, most importantly, does not get sick at all! But in the bright sun, the buds can lighten, so it is better to plant in places with partial shade.
