Rodea description and features
Rodea (Rohdea) - This plant is native to Asian countries and belongs to the evergreen herbaceous perennial and to the Liliaceae family.
A rosette is formed from hard, belt-like, green, curved leaves, the length of which does not exceed 50 centimeters. When flowering occurs in the rosette, a strong flowering shoot of short length is formed. A spike-shaped inflorescence, collected from many small yellow flowers, appears on the top of its head. The flower becomes especially attractive when fruits appear on it. Then the bush is showered with round small beads and red. The growth of the bush is rather slow, the maximum height does not exceed half a meter.
Rodea growing at home
Temperature range:
Rodea prefers to grow in conditions where the air temperature does not exceed +18 degrees. During the vegetative rest period, the thermometer should not exceed +10 degrees. If the conditions of detention exceed the maximum temperature limit, then watering and humidifying the air will have to be done more often.
Illumination:
For good flowering, the plant must be provided with bright lighting, but direct sunlight should not fall on it. Development is possible in semi-shady places, but you should not expect flowering in this case.
Rodea care
That plant is demanding on the temperature of the content and the level of humidity in the room, which makes caring for it not too easy. It is necessary to periodically wipe the sheet plates from dust using a damp sponge. Sluggish leaves must be removed.
Soil selection:
Prefers nutritious, well-drained soils, but can grow on almost any type of soil and with any level of acidity.
Fertilization:
Fertilization is carried out during the spring-summer period with breaks of 14 days. When the plant is resting, it ceases to need additional fertilizing.
Bloom:
It begins to bloom in spring.
Indoor humidity level:
At temperatures exceeding +18 degrees, you need to put the pot with the plant on a tray of fillings with water and a grate on it. It is important that the pot does not touch the bottom of the water. Wet sphagnum moss should be spread around the pot, or special devices can be used to humidify the air.
Moisture level in the soil:
During the period of active wakefulness, it is necessary to constantly keep the soil moist. With the onset of the autumn season, watering should be reduced, but this should not be done immediately, but slowly. In winter, with the correct temperature regime of maintenance, watering should be carried out, only so that the earthen lump does not dry out.
When and how to transplant:
The transplant should be carried out in the spring, before flowering begins and only if necessary. The planting depth in the new location should be the same as in the previous one.
Breeding methods:
The plant can be propagated by dividing the plant when transplanting.
Possible troubles
If the leaves dry out and curl, then the room does not have a sufficient level of humidity. If you water the rodea too much and allow moisture to stagnate in the soil, rotting can begin. Keeping the plant in direct sunlight, especially for a long time, causes the leaves to burn, which look like brown spots.
From insect pests on the plant, you can find mealybugs.
