Sowing before winter: short
Gardeners and summer residents know that in the autumn there is a little less work than, for example, in the spring. Experienced gardeners do not waste time, and plant the seeds of some plants slowly. Many thought that nothing good would come of planting before winter. But no! It has been verified that the yield is no worse than a conventional sowing plant. It is possible to get a harvest in the form of fresh and juicy fruits even fourteen days earlier than in "normal" sowing. Thanks to the hardening of the seeds, the yield is superior to that planted in the spring in terms of quality.
Sowing before winter: the advantages and disadvantages of growing plants
What are the advantages and disadvantages of planting plants before winter? Here are a few of them:
- In the spring season, the weather can be unfavorable for vegetable crops and others, the soil will not have time to warm up in time, which means planting vegetable crops and not only is postponed. Once with the planting date, the date of harvesting is also postponed. If the spring came out with severe droughts, the seeds were in the ground and they absorbed moisture.
- Storing crops from sowing before winter is more difficult than during spring sowing. It is recommended to immediately include this vegetable in your diet in order to reduce it as soon as possible, or make preparations in the form of pickles.
When exactly to plant before winter?
It is necessary to plant plants and vegetables before the onset of severe frosts. The seeds will just have time to swell from moisture, so in the spring season they will hatch faster and will endure all unfavorable weather conditions more steadily. However, do not be in a hurry to do this. Maybe this autumn period will be warm and then the seeds will begin to sprout ahead of time. This will finally doom the seeds to destruction, since frost will not spare them.
The most important thing is to wait for constant cool weather. For Russia - from the second week of October to the second week of November. Do not forget about the existence of the gardener's lunar calendar. You can buy it at a bookstore or a flower shop that specializes in selling garden products. Select a lunar day for planting in advance. If you don't believe in the influence of weather conditions on the growth of vegetables and other crops, it's okay, but it's still worth looking at the recommendations in the calendar.

What seeds should be taken for sowing?
Only dry seeds should be planted before winter. Choose large ones, and then at your discretion. Germination tests and others cannot be applied this time. It is better to use only fresh seeds for a reliable result. It is recommended to purchase seeds two or three times more than would be required in the spring. If you are used to arranging a preventive procedure for seeds, you can dip them into ash, but without any extraneous solutions and substances. To speed up the growth of the plant, glue the seeds on a piece of paper, you can also on a toilet. This should be done in the fall (at the beginning or in the middle). Instead of regular glue, we use potato paste (medium density). We distribute the seeds in two or three rows, before that we apply glue. If you are planting several different crops or varieties, we advise you to sign them. We dry the paper, roll it up, tie it with twine or ordinary threads and place it in our house until sowing. It is not recommended to take the roll earlier, as the seeds may fall.
