Planting sea buckthorn
Content:
One of the simplest ways is considered to be planting sea buckthorn seeds. This planting material is easy to fill, store and move. The planting material of this plant has no organic dormancy, does not need stratification, has an excellent level of germination, especially under favorable conditions. It doesn't matter if you plant the plant right away with seeds or after a certain period of time. It is impossible not to mention its dignity, which is expressed in the simplicity of the method of planting sea buckthorn and its absolute low cost.
It is worth considering the fact that about half of the sprouted plants will be male. It is because of this that this method is widely used to obtain new varieties of sea buckthorn. Experienced gardeners and summer residents use the seed method of cultivating sea buckthorn in landscape design to give originality to their summer cottage or suburban area.
Planting sea buckthorn seeds
Many of us are interested in how to plant sea buckthorn seeds? We recommend using seeds from vigorous and sturdy shrubs. To obtain planting material, the fruits that have just been harvested and at the same time they are moderately ripe should be very finely chopped so that the juice and pulp are separate. Rinse the fruits in warm and settled water, dry in a completely shaded place. The fruit should dry out so that there is no problem removing any remaining pulp and rind from it.
Planting sea buckthorn: rules for storing seeds
For planting sea buckthorn, we put the carefully selected planting material in gauze or special paper bags, then put it in an absolutely dry room for a while. The temperature level does not matter. Sea buckthorn planting material has the ability to be kept in excellent condition. However, after three to four years, the number of germinating seeds becomes much less. And in rooms with a high level of humidity, the number of germinating seeds becomes even less. Their growth slows down and they become absolutely useless as planting material.
Sea buckthorn planting rules
For a large harvest of sea buckthorn, planting should be done with the best seeds. As mentioned above, this planting material does not need stratification. Having carefully selected the best seeds for their appearance (a layer of about three to five centimeters), we place them in boiling water for three to five days. The swollen planting material is shaken in a container or any other container six to eight times a day. On the third - fifth day, sprouts appear. Remember to let fresh air into the seeds. Of course, stratification is not necessary, but it helps seeds to hatch earlier and more. Purchase coarse sand and wet it, then mix it with the seeds (approximately three to one ratio), and then move it to a cold place at zero to three degrees for three weeks, such as a refrigerator or basement. Ordinary room temperature is fine too. Mix them again twice a week.
When you see the first shoots, move any container of seeds under the snow or onto a block of ice. After the seeds have been stratified, they can be sown mixed with the substrate, before that, thoroughly ventilate. Even if you haven't wet the seeds or mixed them with medium-grit sand, still dry them in the shade for about one to three hours. In the presence of clay, heavy, with frequent appearances of dry crusts of the soil, be sure to do stratification. But on light, loamy or sandy loam soils, this is not necessary.
The best time to plant sea buckthorn outdoors - in spring or autumn?
You can plant sea buckthorn in October or March, the main thing is not to sow in September, because in the absence of frost, they will most likely germinate. With the next arrival of frost, they will die. Dried seeds are sown in October, and moist and stratified in March. During particularly dry spring and summer seasons, the seedbed should be watered abundantly and regularly. If you neglect this action, you will get rare and late shoots. The advantage of the autumn planting of sea buckthorn, which is not present in the spring, is a large number of shoots appearing at the same time. The first shoots are usually seen in the second spring month, ten to fourteen days earlier and before the arrival of the hot and dry season they manage to form a powerful root system with a couple of branches. Planting material is sown on the beds. Because of the frequent dry crusting of the topsoil, press the seeds five centimeters into the ground, two centimeters in the fall.
Add humus and sand to the soil (an approximate ratio of one to one), a layer of which should be one to two centimeters. The space between the rows is eighteen - twenty centimeters, between the landing holes - one and a half - two centimeters. When sowing in March and the accompanying weather, the first shoots are formed in seven to eleven days.
Conditions for planting and caring for sea buckthorn in the open field
Unfortunately, after planting, this sea buckthorn planting material does not live in the ground for a long time. In the absence of seedlings after thirty to sixty days, they died. The seeds do not have a dormant state, in soil with moisture they swell, then germinate and die in bad weather conditions.
Basic rules for growing sea buckthorn, how to plant and care:
- regular watering.
- regular weeding of the earth.
- regular loosening of the earth.
- maintaining a comfortable temperature.
If you follow these simple rules of care, sea buckthorn will grow up to forty centimeters up, the width of the root collar is about four millimeters.
