Tips from experienced summer residents for planting raspberries
Many of you probably know that raspberries are best planted in the fall. But sometimes it is not possible to do it exactly in these terms. But raspberries are a plastic berry and can be planted in spring and even summer. If you want to replace the raspberry bushes that you already have, or buy seedlings of a new variety, then do not forget that the seedlings must be with a closed root system. In principle, you can plant your berry throughout June, unless June is very hot. But if you plant in July, then you may not get the desired result. Planting raspberries in the garden does not require any special choice of location. Raspberries are such a berry that they can grow in one place for 10 or more years, so choose a place for raspberries with care. The best place for raspberries is a place where sunlight is ideally placed, the site should be protected from the winds. It is also very important that if you already had raspberries, then you should not plant other plants in its place.
Because diseases and pests of raspberries can spread to new plants. If you want to return raspberries to their old place, then this can be done only after 5-6 years. Also, an important point is that the seedlings should not be harvested in advance, everything is done right before planting in the ground.
For planting, you need to take large, healthy seedlings with developed shoots. Raspberries can be planted in three ways. Let's take a look at each of them. 1. Bush method. It is necessary to dig holes, the diameter of which is 45-50 cm and a depth of 30-40 cm. In each such hole, it is necessary to add one and a half buckets of humus, which should be mixed with sifted wood ash and superphosphate. Here you can plant from 2 to 5 seedlings of berries, which should be placed along the edges against each other. In the middle of the hole, you need to place a stake to which you will need to tie the plant to make a powerful bush. 2. Trench method. If you decide to choose this particular method, then about 3 weeks before the expected planting of raspberries, you will need to grow these raspberries. Ditches will also need to be prepared in advance. To do this, they are dug 30-40 cm deep with a width of up to half a meter. At the bottom, you will need to put humus (compost) mixed with ash and phosphorus fertilizer, and on top put fertile soil (about 5-10 cm). Then you can plant the seedlings at a distance of 35-50 cm from each other. 3. Tape. This is probably the easiest way to plant raspberries if you have a large area.
The essence of this method is as follows. 1.5 - 1.75 m between the ribbons and 35-50 cm between the seedlings themselves in the same row. Regardless of which planting method you choose, it should be remembered that you need to plant seedlings in such a way that the root collar is at the level of the soil, in no case should you add and sprinkle it on top with earth.
