Watering correctly!
Having dealt with the regime, norms and composition of water for irrigating plants, it is quite natural to ask the question about the technique itself, as well as the tools - how to make the correct watering so as not to exceed the norm, so that the water is distributed evenly and does not splash in different directions?
It seems that even such a seemingly uncomplicated process has its own tricks and nuances. Let's figure out what they are.
The process of watering crops, as well as young seedlings, which are located in the beds or in boxes, must be started from one end. An important point is that you should not immediately direct the flow of water to the plantings, as there is a risk of washing out the seeds, as well as damage to the still immature shoots.
In this case, watering should be carried out gradually, starting beyond the edge of a given box or garden bed - in this way, moisture will gradually drain and gently absorb into the soil, which will have a beneficial effect on the plantings. Uniform moistening of the soil surface is achieved by a constant pressure of water - whether it be a hose or a watering can, you should not stop the flow prematurely or bend back.
Be especially careful with young and immature plants when watering the beds with a watering can - do not stop the water supply, otherwise sharp large drops can harm or even cause the stems to break.
Often there are disputes and doubts about the tool for watering plants. The most common options are a watering can and a hose, but let's take each of them in order.
A watering can is the simplest and most common solution that requires absolutely nothing but physical strength and manual dexterity. The watering can can be used for targeted irrigation, that is, the water flow is regulated and adjusted to the precisely selected plant - the spraying is minimal, which also contributes to greater convenience for the summer resident.
The garden watering nozzle provides a fairly uniform access of moisture, covering a rather large area. Also, the advantage of watering cans lies in the variety of designs, capacity and grip - there is always what will be the most practical solution for you personally.
It is not recommended to buy specimens that are too large or too small in capacity - the disadvantage of the former is the increased severity and low mobility, for the latter, the water supply is insufficient, you often have to top up to get the required amount for all the beds.
The optimum capacity for a garden watering can is 10 liters. In order to facilitate ease of handling, choose for yourself a watering can with a comfortable handle and a sufficient spout length - this is especially true for wide beds, to the middle of which it is not always possible to reach with your hands.
Although watering with a watering can is enough for small and medium-sized territories, there are also such summer residents whose economy is impressive in size. It is in this case that a hose comes to the rescue - a tool for covering large areas with moisture, which is difficult to irrigate regularly with a watering can.
However, this method already requires significantly more efforts and costs for effective arrangement, since it requires the purchase of a hose made of high-quality material, which is not so cheap, its subsequent connection to the water supply system, as well as constant untangling and stretching throughout the entire area for the period of watering.
To carry out proper watering, it is very important to ensure that the hose laid over the territory does not bend - otherwise there is a risk of moisture accumulation in one place and subsequent irreparable damage to the material.
Be careful not to damage any plants in its path while stretching the hose. It is not recommended to run the hose over the beds if it is possible to use a garden path for this.
As for the materials from which the hose should ideally be made, then a list of the main criteria should be highlighted - strength, flexibility, number of layers. A good and reliable hose should be at least two-layer for long-term operation, the material should not be fragile, prone to rupture.
Be sure to check the hose for even the slightest mechanical damage right at the place of purchase, in the store. It is recommended to pay attention to hoses treated with nylon braid - these are the specimens that are considered the most reliable and will serve you for more than one year.
It should also be noted that a spray nozzle should be attached to the hose, thanks to which, you can cover a fairly large area and save yourself time without fear for the safety of the plants.
The spray nozzle somewhat delays the force of the pressure, adjusting it in such a way that moisture is supplied in small portions, evenly, and does not damage young, fragile plants when falling.
Plants can and should be watered, and this should be done in accordance with a strictly verified regimen. Using a hose or a watering can for this is entirely your business, depending mostly on personal convenience.
The main thing is not to damage the plants with a strong pressure of water during watering, so you can only make them worse, damage their plant tissues.
If your plot is of modest size, it is better not to create more costs for yourself and take an ordinary watering can, and if you have a spacious area, you can already think about buying a hose to ensure proper watering.
Good luck to you!
