Sunflower in garden design: decorative plant
Many summer residents, growing sunflowers, do not at all consider them as an option for decorating their site, and meanwhile, today the number of varieties of decorative sunflowers is already several hundred, and breeders do not stop working on breeding new species.
Decorative sunflowers are so varied in color that they will perfectly "fit" into any flower beds, and different plant heights allow not only decorating recreation areas with them, but also "covering" many unsightly, but necessary outbuildings.
By the way, initially, the decorative role was assigned to the sunflower, and after they began to get oil from it, they forgot a little about it. But now the situation is improving. Not so long ago, a whole Sunflower Park was opened in Europe, which contains all the species and varieties of this plant known today.
Variety of varieties
The choice of decorative sunflowers will bring many surprises and you will hardly be able to choose any one variety.
Some plants will attract a variety of colors, combining yellow, orange, red and brown shades. Others will amaze you with an incredible inflorescence, looking at which you will doubt whether there is a sunflower in front of you.
Among such plants is undoubtedly the Teddy Bear sunflower. A huge number of petals, turns the inflorescence into a real plush pompom. Such a sunflower looks interesting both in garden compositions and in cutting.
The Fiery Ring variety is a real hit among decorative sunflowers, since very few well-known flower crops can boast of such spectacular color transitions. The petals diverge from the center like tongues of flame, deep red at the base and bright yellow at the tips.
Lovers of abundantly flowering plants will not be left indifferent by the variety "Sonya" - the record holder for the number of inflorescences, which can only compete with the variety "Pacino".
Sunflowers as a pot crop
Continuing our acquaintance with ornamental sunflowers, we will pay attention to varieties intended for growing in pots and tubs. Yes, there are some among them.
Unlike in Europe, where this ornamental crop is sold along with other flower seedlings, this is unlikely to be found in our garden centers.
At the same time, the assortment of seeds offered by specialized stores and simple cultivation techniques will allow you to get as many plants as you want.
Like regular sunflowers, potted varieties prefer well-lit areas. Caring for them includes regular watering and feeding during the period of bud formation and during flowering. In addition, to continue budding, it is better to remove stepchildren from time to time.
Sunflowers blooming in a pot will transform any corner in an instant.
For example, several pots with plants of different varieties will be an excellent decoration for any terrace or gazebo, a center of universal attraction and an impromptu photo zone.
Higher plants, planted in tubs, can be used as a mobile temporary screen, or, with their help, you can zone the site. Everyone will admire the unexpected beauty of sunflowers without noticing their functional purpose.
Pots with sunflowers of different colors can be placed near the porch of the house, placed on the balcony, creating a bright composition.
Small architectural forms that have become popular, such as bridges, benches, mills, wells, will look much more spectacular in the vicinity of blooming sunflowers.
Sunflower in garden decoration: placing plants in the open field
Decorative sunflowers, planted in open ground in a certain order, and not just randomly "scattered" over the site, can become not only a spectacular decoration, but also an excellent functional solution.
For example, a hedge of different types of sunflowers, from short to tall, can cover an unsightly fence or outbuilding.
In addition, with such a hedge, you can divide the site into zones, hiding the planting of vegetable crops behind the sunflowers.
In order to prolong the flowering of the hedge, you need to plant the plants in stages, with a frequency of two to three weeks.
Low-growing sunflowers, different in color, planted on the lawn, will be a stunningly bright accent on your site.
Tall plants can be used as an alternative to vertical landscaping, and as an addition to it. For example, bright yellow "heads" of sunflowers will look interesting in the green thickets of maiden grapes.
Well, a wicker fence with sunflowers peeping out from behind it is just a "classic storyline".
And then, sunflower is a flower of the sun, and in our climatic conditions the sun is never superfluous.
