Foliar dressing of cucumber
Content:
Every experienced gardener knows and understands that it is not easy to achieve a good harvest just like that. It is necessary to make some effort, to look after and take care of the cucumbers: water them regularly, get rid of weeds, loosen the ground and, of course, fertilize. Without feeding, your cucumbers are unlikely to please with a good and high-quality harvest. Why foliar dressing of cucumber is needed, you will find out in this article.
Why do you need foliar dressing for cucumber?
Foliar dressing, like root dressing, is necessary for cucumbers. Fertilizers with nitrogen content contribute to the rejuvenation of plant leaves, improve photosynthesis, and prevent yellowing.
This type of dressing is a real salvation in cold, cloudy weather. Indeed, at low temperatures, the roots of a cucumber are not able to absorb useful trace elements that enter the soil with fertilizers.
Foliar dressing is also good for its economy, because the sprayed plant will be able to absorb the maximum amount of vitamins. Whereas with root feeding, most of the nutrients go deep into the soil, where the plant does not reach.
But one must understand that one cannot do only with foliar dressing. It is imperative to apply fertilizers to the soil.
How to feed?
Foliar dressing can be carried out about three times per season, it is no longer worth it.
1. For the first time, cucumbers need feeding at the beginning of flowering. At this time, thanks to fertilization, you can increase the number of ovaries.
2. The second time you need to feed at the beginning of fruiting. This will accelerate the ripening of the fruits, improve their taste.
3. The third feeding is done when the amount of the crop has decreased significantly. With the help of top dressing, we can give the plant strength and prolong fruiting.
To feed the plant foliarly, you need to use a spray bottle. Fill it with a nutrient solution and gently spray on the leaves and stems of the cucumbers. The longer the droplets stay on the surface of the plants, the more nutrients they will absorb.
Foliar dressing recipes
1. Urea. This fertilizer allows you to saturate the plants with nitrogen. For the first feeding, it is necessary to dissolve 40 g of urea in 10 liters of water. For the second - 30 g in 10 liters of water, and for the third - 15 g in 10 liters of water.
2. Superphosphate. To saturate cucumbers with phosphorus, you need to take 35 g of superphosphate and dissolve it in 10 liters of hot water. Remember that superphosphate is poorly soluble in water, so it is necessary to prepare the solution in advance, let it settle, and then separate the liquid from the sediment.
3. Potassium. This is another element that the cucumber needs. To prepare top dressing, you need to dissolve 1 teaspoon and 10 crystals of potassium permanganate in 1 liter of water.
4. Sugar or honey. You need to prepare a solution of sugar or honey and spray it on the cucumbers during the flowering period. This is done in order to attract as many pollinating insects as possible to your cucumbers. This advice is relevant if you do not have self-pollinating varieties.
5. "Zelenka". This fertilizer is very easy to prepare and has a beneficial effect on cucumbers. We need to take a barrel and fill it with any weeds by 2/3 (nettles, dandelions, burdocks, quinoa). Now fill everything with water and close the lid. The herb should be infused for about 2 weeks, while stirring it regularly. When time has passed, mix the solution with water (1:20) and spray cucumbers with it.
6. Ash. This fertilizer should be used during the fruiting period of cucumbers. 1 glass of ash must be dissolved in 10 liters of water and infused for 24 hours. After the time has elapsed, you need to strain the liquid to get rid of the sediment.
